The Meeting was called to order by President Fridson at 7:00 p.m. in the board room of the Administration Offices, Avery Center, 14700 W. Lincoln, Oak Park, Michigan . CURRICULUM REPORTS 1. Family Access Judy Nichols gave a report on the Family Access program. 2. World Language – Deb Trapp Deb Trapp, Emily Alquist, Susie Dubeck and Jody Florkowski along with French students gave an overview of the district’s World Language program.. CITIZEN COMMENTS (limit is 5 minutes per person) REPORTS 3. Legislative Report – Marc Katz Mr. Katz reported on current legislative issues. 4. Conference Reports Mr. Blauer and Mr. Katz reported on their attendance at the recent OCSBA meeting. 5. Student Representative Report None Given 6. Berkley Educational Foundation – Larry Gallagher Mr. Gallagher reported on current and upcoming fundraising efforts by the Berkley Educational Foundation. SCHOOL DISTRICT ISSUES 7. Schools of Choice It was moved by Ellison, supported by Mr. Travis, to approve participation as a Section 105 School of Choice for the 2007-08 school year with limited enrollment. Ayes: Fridson, Reid, Blauer, Travis, Ellison, Benner Nays: Katz The Berkley Board of Education approved participation as a Section 105 School of Choice for the 2007-2008 school year with limited enrollment as follows. Kindergarten – 65 students 1st grade – 10 students 2nd grade – 10 students 3rd grade – 10 students 4th grade – 10 students 5th grade – 10 students SCHOOL BOARD ISSUES 8. Election Date Change Approval It was moved by Mr. Katz, supported by Mr. Ellison, to approve the Election Date Change resolution. Ayes: Fridson, Katz, Reid, Blauer, Benner, Travis, Ellsion Nays: None The Berkley Board of Education adopted the Resolution to change its election date from a May election date to an odd-year November election date. Consent Agenda (Items on the Consent Agenda are to be voted on as a single item by the Board. Board members may remove items from the Consent Agenda prior to the vote. Items which are removed from the Consent Agenda will be discussed individually following the Consent Agenda.) It was moved by Mr. Katz, supported by Mr. Ellison, to approve the consent agenda. Personnel Issues 9. Personnel Recommendations The Berkley Board of Education approved the December, 2006 personnel list as presented. 10. Non Certified Substitutes Rate Increase The Berkley Board of Education approved the rate increase for Non Certified Substitutes as presented below. Clerical $9.00 Para-educator $7.50 Lunch Aide/K+ Aide $7.50 School Board Issues 11. Approval of New Policy for Second Reading The Berkley Board of Education approved the following new policy for second reading. Beverage Consortium Participation Approval The Berkley Board of Education adopted the Cooperative Agreement Resolution and authorized establishment of, and district participation in, Schools Beverage Consortium as presented. 14. List of Bills The Berkley Board of Education approved the various November, 2006 list of bills in the amount of $3,721,311.02. ANNOUNCEMENTS The next OCSBA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 17 in Farmington.
