DIED IN THE HOPE OF RISING AGAIN Ellen A. Abair Koonz died Friday, November 10 at the age of 72 years, eleven months and two weeks. A funeral mass was celebrated at the Church of St. John the Evangelist on Tuesday, November 14th, with burial in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. May God open the gates of paradise for her, and may those who remain comfort one another with assurances of faith. REBORN AN HEIR OF EVERLASTING LIFE Paul William Mueller IV, infant son of Kara Ann Mahar Mueller and Paul William Mueller III, became an heir of everlasting life through Holy Baptism last Sunday, November 19, after the 10 AM mass. We bid YOUR PRAYERS Your prayers have been requested for Paul Carlotti, Michele Cramer, Barbara Forcinella, Melissa Kirschbaum, June Mahan, Nobel Messenger, Mary Spath, and Dominick Verrelli. LECTORS ! Please come to the sacristy to sign for and pick up your new “Workbook for Lectors and Gospel Readers.” The readings for the new liturgical year, centered on the Gospel of Luke, begin next weekend. If you’re interested in having your sixth-twelfth grade son attend LaSalle Institute in Troy, they are scheduling two entrance and scholarship exams this and next month: Saturday, December 2 and January, 6, 2007 at 8:15 AM. You must call to register, however, at 283-2500, ext 237. LOOKING AHEAD Entrance and scholarship exams ROSARY ALTAR SOCIETY The Rosary Altar Societies will meet on Monday, December 4 at 6:30 PM in the Parish House meeting room and at 7 PM the same evening in St. Joseph’s Parish Hall. They invite you to help clean both our churches on Saturday, December 9, beginning at 9 AM. CHRISTIAN SERVICE NEWS In preparation for the approaching holy day and holiday season, the Christian Service Team will be offering a number of opportunities to reach out to those in our community who are homebound, ill or economically needy. Watch for their bulletin insert next weekend, as they seek to help us be the hands and feet of Christ this Advent. DECEMBER MISSION IN OUR DEANERY We will join the other parishes in our Southern Rensselaer deanery in welcoming Fr. John Collins to conduct a Paulist Mission among us December 9-13, just as our pastor returns from sabbatical. Fr. Collins’ preaching schedule brings him to St. Joseph’s for the vigil mass on Saturday, December 9, and he will conduct his retreat on Wednesday, December 13 at 7 PM at St. John’s. The full schedule for the entire deanery, including morning retreats, will be published beforehand. Plan to attend these opportunities for spiritual sustenance and renewal. UPDATE ON ST. JOHN’S ORGAN CONSOLE Plans were for the connection of pipe work of the gallery organ to have been completed this past week, along with the installation of the adjunct one manual (keyboard) and pedal instrument in the east (Pieta) transept of the nave. The final voicing and finishing of the gallery organ should be completed with a week or so. 142 donors have now contributed $40,966. We are more than half way there! $39,509 more in tax-deductible donations will complete this project. If you’ve been considering a contribution, there’s no time like the present! Bishop Hubbard called Father to see how his sabbatical was going, a fact which amazed most of the other priests there, whose bishops are rather inattentive to their priests. Father’s Thanksgiving holiday began last Tuesday, the 21st, when he went to Seattle, WA for three nights, followed 2 nights in Reno, NV and 2 nights in Oakdale, CA (via Tahoe and Yosemite). He will return to the Vatican II Institute this Tuesday, 11/28 to complete the last ten days of his sabbatical and prepare to come home. Fr. assures us that his sabbatical has been life-transforming and grace-filled, for which he is most grateful to God, to Bishop Hubbard, to the faculty and to us. We expect our pastor back in Rensselaer sometime in the afternoon two weeks from today on Sunday, December 10. In the meantime, he extends to us his wishes for a blessed holiday season. Pray for him, as he does for us. THE LATEST FR. CALI - FORNO REPORT HOLIDAY Comfort for the bereaved St. Pius X Church at 23 Crumitie Road in Loudonville invites you to the bereavement program “From Grief to Grace” in their parish chapel this Wednesday, November 29 from 7-8:30 PM.
