The following is a list of private mental health practitioners who are members of the Australian Association for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and
advertise that they practice Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. When selecting a practitioner please bear in mind the following:
Don't be afraid to shop around and to ask questions: It is important that you find a therapist who is right for you, so searc hing around is often a
good idea. A good therapist will never get defensive or be offended if you don't feel the CB T service is effective and should provide information
on other available services if you ask them.
Check the practitioner's qualifications and professional registration: Cognitive Behaviour Therapists come from a wide range of professions.
Most CBT practitioners are psychologists. Although attempts have been made to confirm that practitioners listed on the AACB T database are
registered with the relevant registration board (usually the Psychologists Registration Board of WA), it is advised that you contact the relevant
registration body of the selected practitioner/s prior to engaging in a therapeutic relationship in order to confirm the prac titioner's current
registration details.
Please also be aware that you can access mental health services through your GP, the Government Healt h Department, and various non
government agencies. Your GP will be able to advise you on the suitability of these services for you, and provide a referral if appropriate.
