The largest ever, with over 100 collaborating artists

(8 January, 2007, Hong Kong) Dedicated to cultivating local emerging artists Sino
Group is delighted to sponsor this year‟s Fotanian 2007 – Open Studio, an annual
event to be held starting 13 January 2007 (Sat) that enables people to sample the
fruit of over 100 talented artists.

This year‟s event kicks off on 13 January and the studios‟ doors are open from 3pm
to 8pm for two consecutive weekends. With over 28 studios and over 100 artists
participating, the celebration has grown to an unprecedented scale.

The artists involved have a wide variety of backgrounds, including overseas and
local artists, with a significant showing of graduates from the Department of Fine
Arts of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Art School. Artists
will exhibit paintings, sculptures, ceramics, mixed media, prints, photography and
video. Visitors can freely explore the artists‟ workplaces and learn about their art
and techniques. To foster sharing and an exchange of ideas, visitors are
encouraged to chat with artists in a friendly, open atmosphere.

Ms Una Lau, Assistant General Manager of Marketing & Corporate
Communications of Sino Group, said, „Sino Group strongly supports the
Fotanian artists and their passionate pursuit of art and creativity. Through our
sponsorship we hope to encourage visitors to explore the cluster of studios and
creative industries in Fotan, and enhance the public‟s understanding and
appreciation of Hong Kong‟s contemporary art scene.‟

Studio Touring Maps are available for visitors to locate studios in the various
buildings. Guided tours are arranged twice on each event day, at 4pm and 6pm.

       About Fotanian
Since 2000, local creative professionals have taken advantage of the spacious lofts
left vacant in industrial buildings by the migration of manufacturing industries to the
Mainland. In Fotan alone, there are over 100 artists in a cluster of more than 30
       studios.

The area has been transformed into a vibrant and diverse art community,
“Fotanian”, which is nurturing both emerging talents and established artists.
Commercial galleries like Hanart are also setting up its branch in Fotan. The area is
playing an increasingly important role in the development of the local arts ecology.
Since launching in 2003, the Fotanian Open Studio programme has shared the
artists‟ output and workspace with visitors. The programme has expanded rapidly
over the years, and the 2007 event is the biggest ever.
