Regional: EU-ASEAN Seminar on the Protection and Promotion of Geographical Indications (GIs)
“Lands of Tradition and Opportunities”
28-29 June 2006, Bangkok
H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand will address an opening ceremony at the two-day
regional seminar jointly organised by ECAP II and the Thai Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) of the
Ministry of Commerce. European experts (from France, Portugal and Spain) and ASEAN experts will
present the Geographical Indications (GI) systems of their countries as well as related international and
ASEAN regulations. GI producers will show how to control, protect and recognise GI products and how to
make a GI application. In addition, an exhibition will showcase European and ASEAN GI products. A
“twinning” initiative will be launched to establish an ASEAN/European GI network. The programme and the

Thailand: Training on Industrial Designs
19-20 June 2006, Bangkok
An expert from the Office of Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) will conduct a two-day training
course on Industrial Designs for a total of 15 examiners from the Department of Intellectual Property
(Thailand) and from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights (Indonesia). The course will
focus on design examination procedures and the Community Design system.
Cambodia: Training on Industrial Designs & Preparation of Guidelines on Industrial Designs
21-23 June 2006, Phnom Penh
Cambodian examiners from the Intellectual Property Department (IPD) will attend a training session on
Industrial Designs conducted by an expert from the Office of Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM).
The two-day training will be followed by a consultation session to assist the IPD in the preparation of
guidelines on Industrial Designs Examination.
Indonesia: Training on Trade Mark Examination Procedures
26-29 June 2006, Jakarta
A four-day training will be conducted in Jakarta for 26 trade mark examiners from national IP offices of
Indonesia, Laos and Thailand. The training is co-organised with the Directorate General of Intellectual
Property Rights (DGIPR) and will provide an overview of trade mark examination procedures, grounds for
refusal and non-traditional marks.
Vietnam: Establishment of an IP Information Centre at the Supreme People’s Court
As part of ECAP II’s assistance in promoting IP information, ECAP II will supply a range of IP literature to
the IP Information Centre of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam.
