Fact sheet Energy Efficiency How to Save Energy, Money and the Environment
Introduction
Energy efficiency is getting the most from the energy we use to meet our needs. Whether heating, cooling or lighting our offices or manufacturing and transporting goods and materials, energy use can be minimised through improving our energy efficiency. By reducing our energy consumption we reduce the production of polluting greenhouse gas emissions, thereby improving our environment.
Energy Smart Business Program
Some 230 companies in NSW have taken part in the Sustainable Energy Development Authority’s (SEDA) Energy Smart Business program since it’s founding in 1997. Collectively they are reducing more than 370,000 tonnes of polluting greenhouse emissions and saving over $22 million in energy costs annually. Energy Smart Businesses also cite increased productivity, better customer and market recognition and happier staff as benefits of the program. More information regarding the benefits of the program, how to become an Energy Smart Business Partner and case studies are available at www.energysmart.com.au/wes/DisplayPage.asp?PageID=6
Energy Smart Toolbox
SEDA has developed the Energy Smart Toolbox to bring together a wealth of information, knowledge and resources relating to energy efficiency and energy management. It can be used as a step-by-step guide to managing energy throughout your organisation or as an information resource focussed on specific aspects of energy management and energy saving technologies. The Energy Smart Toolbox will help you understand where your organisation uses energy, what types of technologies and systems are in place and how their efficiency can be improved. It provides a means to calculate and quantify energy savings and presents a robust financial case to your decision-makers for the improvement and/or replacement of energy inefficient technologies and systems.
