Kentucky Science Core Content Objective: SC-04.3.4.4
    The student will locate birds using binoculars, spotting scope and bird book-so as to
    check off the different types of birds located on a handout. Also, the student will
    describe why the identified bird is like their bird parent.

Specific Objectives:
    1. The student will be given a binocular and focus it
    2. The student will be given a worksheet with the names and identifiers of local
       birds and locate the cutout model in the garden.
    3. The student will mark on the worksheet the local bird cutout they found.
    4. The student will match on the worksheet, the type of bird bill with food source,
        which is similar to the bird parent.
    5. The student will match on the worksheet, where birds make their nests similar
        their bird parent.

Content Outline:
   1. Using binoculars and spotting scope
   2. Names of local birds
   3. Characteristics and identifiers of these birds.
   4. How they are different and how they are similar.
   5. Location of the bird cutouts.
   6. Different types of bird bills
   7. Different types of bird bill to find desired food source, which is like their bird
      parent
   8. Different types nesting, which is similar to their bird parent.

Methods:
   1. Lecture/discussion
   2. Completion of worksheets
   3. Finding bird cutouts in the Garden
   4. Working with partners, when appropriate.

Materials Needed to Teach:
   1. Binoculars and spotting scope
   2. Cutouts of birds
   3. Bird Books
   4. Worksheets with names of birds and identifiers
   5. Worksheets so the student can match food source and bird bill
   6. Worksheet so student can match nesting habits with the bird
Evaluation:
    1. Finding a bird cutout in the Garden and matching it on the worksheet
    2. Matching the bird bill of the parent and offspring with the food source on the
       worksheet
    3. Matching the nesting area with the bird parent and the bird on the worksheet
