STEVEN LEVITT LECTURE | IUB, SORF and Business Council are
sponsoring “An Evening with Steven Levitt,” the author of the critically
acclaimed novel, Freakonomics, and a University of Chicago
Economics professor. This event is on Tuesday, February 12 at 7pm in
Foellinger Auditorium. The Illini Union Bookstore will host a book
signing immediately following the lecture. Tickets are free and
available at Ticket Central in the Illini Union. Limit two tickets per I-

THE FIRM CONSULTING WORKSHOP | The Firm invites you to
Workshop #4: Case interview reenactment and analysis. This event
will take place Sunday, February 17 from 3pm to 4pm in 2405 Siebel
Center. This is the fourth in a series of four workshops geared to
prepare participants for a consulting case interview. FIRM members
have significant case interview experience and have secured jobs with
top strategy firms including, McKinsey & Company, Bain & Company

Every year the College of Business rewards 4 (2 students, 1 faculty and 1
administrative faculty or staff) people for outstanding leadership and service
to the College of Business community. These awards are initiated and
selected primarily by students. This year, submissions are electronic and
being accepted now until Tues., March 4. The awards will be presented at
the annual Awards Dinner in April. Nominations accepted at the
Undergraduate Affairs website, www.business.uiuc.edu/undergrad.

PWC LEADERSHIP ADVENTURE | Apply now for an opportunity to
attend the PwC Leadership Adventure, in Chicago, where you will learn

SPRING SEMINAR REVIEW | Associate Dean Mullins’ Spring Seminar,
“The Keys to Academic Success in the College of Business” proved to

Do you remember being a new freshman or Transfer student? Were
you overwhelmed with what to do, where to go and whom to
ask? Want to give back to our college, help new students and have
another meaningful activity to include on your resume? Want to get a
free and really cool T-Shirt? If so, volunteer to become a Buddy
(Mentor) for incoming freshmen or transfer students for the 2008 Fall
Semester! The Buddy Program will need 10 current juniors that came
to the College of Business as Transfer Students to mentor to our new
Transfers and 120 students to mentor incoming freshmen next
Fall. Current freshmen (next year’s sophomores) will be given priority,
but current sophomores (next year’s juniors) will be considered if extra
opportunities allow.

This is how the Buddy Program will work:

Each Buddy will be assigned approximately 5 new Transfers or
freshmen to mentor during the first half of the Fall Semester.
Your obligations will be:

1) Attend a mandatory one hour Mentor Orientation Session in March.
2) Contact your assigned students by email or by phone over the
3) Meet with your students during the Transfer Student Breakfast
Reception on August 23rd or during a “Break-Out session”
after Freshmen Convocation on August 22nd.
4) Attend Quad Day and Business Quad Day with your new students.
5) Send your students a “How’s it going?” email several weeks into the
6) Participate in a fun activity (TBA) in September or early October.
7) Be available to answer questions and make referrals if your
students contact you with questions during the academic year.

To qualify as a Buddy, you must academically be in Good Standing in
the College of Business. To volunteer email your statement of interest
with a brief paragraph outlining why you want to be a Buddy and
indicate your preferred T-Shirt size to Jeff Headtke,
jheadtke@uiuc.edu. Please put “BUDDY APP” in the subject line of your
email. The deadline to volunteer is 12 pm (Noon) on
Monday, February 18th.

Business Career Night in which underclassmen will have to opportunity
to speak with upperclassmen from various majors about the career
choices they have made. This will give freshmen and sophomores the
chance to talk one on one with juniors and seniors about the choices
they have made in deciding which major to pursue, how to land an
internship or even what classes to take. Pizza will be provided! This
event will take place on Thursday, February 21 from 4 pm to 6pm in
