TE Data ADSL 2PLUS
As Fast As it Gets!
TE Data ADSL 2PLUS is the first of its kind ADSL service in the Egyptian market that enables users to
enjoy broadband speeds up to 24Mbps* (24 Mega bits per second). At such speed, a unique
stunning cyber experience is created for all those maximum overdrive fans out there!
Imagine being able to download a whole 1.5 GB movie in less than 9 minutes -- or download the full
album of your favorite singer in about 3 seconds! Amazing … but fortunately very true and very
possible – ONLY with TE Data ADSL 2PLUS!
And as part of TE Data’s dedication to delivering fastest and most reliable Internet services to the
whole country and not just major cities such as Cairo and Alexandria, we made a strategic decision
to transform our entire network into an ADSL 2PLUS capable one so that everybody in Egypt would
get the chance to enjoy and make use of this ultra fast Internet experience.
* Traditionally, a regular ADSL line can support speeds up to 8Mbps. But thanks to the latest
technology that TE Data incorporates on its state of the art network, TE Data ADSL 2PLUS can reach
up to 24Mbps and not just 8Mpbs like ordinary ADSL service offered by most service providers. It’s
worth mentioning though that the maximum speed that a certain line can support depends and
relies heavily on: 1) quality of phone line on which service is enabled, and 2) length of phone wire,
which is practically equal to the distance from the central office. Max speeds can be achieved when
ADSL 2PLUS is installed on a good quality phone line that is very close to the central office. The
further we get away from the central office the less the max attainable speed. Same applies to
phone line quality; the poorer the quality of the phone wire, the less the max attainable speed on
that very wire.
ADSL 2PLUS is available in different speeds ranging from 4Mbps and up to 24Mbps.
Typical price plans are shown in the table below:
Speed* 4Mbps 8Mbps 16Mbps 24Mbps
1 Month 500 850 1,500 2,250
3 Months 1,400 2,450 4,350 6,500
1 Year 5,500 - - -
* Upload speed for ADSL 2PLUS packages is 1Mbps.
For ADSL 2PLUS to work according the TE Data’s standards, it’s recommended to use ADSL modems
and routers provided by TE Data. You can buy or rent these devices from TE Data at the following

TE Data ADSL 2PLUS Frequently Asked Questions
What is ADSL2+?
ADSL2+ is a broadband technology developed to supersede ADSL and can allow speeds of up to
24Mbit/s. ADSL2+ allows you to download things from the Internet faster. It also allows you to use
your internet connection for other advanced applications such as IPTV and video conferencing.
It’s worth noting that ADSL 2PLUS supports speeds of “up to” 24,000kbps but also as low as
1,500kbps. The actual speed will depend on different factors including distance from your local
exchange, age of phone line and interference on the line.
What speed could I expect from an ADSL 2PLUS connection?
The speed of ADSL 2PLUS varies depending on your distance from the local exchange (central office)
and also on the quality of the copper line between you and the exchange. Internal phone wiring at
the place of ADSL 2PLUS installation also affects the speed. Having several phone sockets with bad
cabling induce noise on your line, which affects the speed negatively. By installing a central splitter
at the point the line enters your premises and running a direct fresh piece of copper you can
improve your connection in some cases.
If your line is good and there is no other factors affecting your connection you should be able to
experience speeds close to the following graph. Remember: these are ideal speeds, not everyone
has a good enough line to achieve this speeds.
What is the maximum number of users that the ADSL 2PLUS will allow?
Although ADSL 2PLUS can support many users to access the Internet simultaneously, ADSL 2PLUS is
a personal service that should be used only by the owner by the owner of the phone line and those
living/working at the same premise whose address is entered in the service application at time of
subscription. Sharing the connection with neighbors or any other people wirelessly or through
cables, for a fee or at no charge is prohibited by law. Therefore, TE Data reserves the right to
terminate the service with no prior warning if it became evident that an ADSL or ADSL 2PLUS line is
being used by individuals other than the original service subscriber.
Is ADSL 2PLUS suitable for my Business?
Yes. TE Data ADSL 2PLUS is suitable for both personal and business use. Home offices and small
businesses will find TE Data ADSL 2PLUS perfect for conducting online business, staying connected
with the whole world, researching for relevant information, download brochures and literature of
products sold 1000s of miles way, exchanging emails and closing deals with partners and vendors
24x7. It’s worth nothing, though, that due to the fact that ADSL 2PLUS has a limited upstream
bandwidth (1Mbit/s), it is not advisable to use ADSL 2PLUS for businesses that wish to host web
servers and mail servers at their premise. For such purposes and for mission critical applications, TE
Data MDIA (Managed Dedicated Internet Services, also known as Leased Line) should be considered.
What ADSL modems (CPEs) are compatible with TE Data ADSL 2PLUS?
For best guaranteed service performance, only use modems and routers provided by TE Data. Such
devices are extensively tested for ADSL 2PLUS compatibility and are guaranteed to offer best service
quality on TE Data’s network. And in its limitless attempts to bring you the best affordable service
elements, TE Data provides these devices almost at cost and at prices that cannot be found
elsewhere in the market.
What do I need to get ADSL 2PLUS?
Three things are needed to get ADSL 2PLUS:
1) Computer that works,
2) Modem or router that supports ADSL2+ technology
3) Phone line that belongs to a central office that is within our service coverage. Please check
service availability using the tool on the home page http://www.tedata.net to make sure
that service is available at the central office your belong to. Please call 19777 if you need
I’m a TE Data ADSL users, and already have a modem/router from TE Data, does this mean that it
will definitely work with TE Data ADSL 2PLUS?
Not necessarily. ADSL2+ is a relatively new technology. Currently all devices provided by TE Data
support ADSL2+ technology. But some of the older modems and routers would not support this
technology. At this point, only the following devices are proved to work with ADSL 2PLUS:
3COM E75, 3COM A75, SpeedTouch 585, Paradyne 6218-I2, and Paradyne 6218-A1
I want to upgrade my TE Data ADSL to ADSL 2PLUS, but the ADSL modem/router I got from TE
Data does not support ADSL2+ technology. It’s not on the above list!
If you are renting the ADSL CPE from TE Data, then after upgrading to ADSL 2PLUS, you are entitled
to exchange it for a new router that supports this technology. However, if you own the CPE, then
you cannot exchange it. You can buy or rent a new one.
I’m a TE Data ADSL user, but my modem/router is not from TE Data, will it work with ADSL 2PLUS?
Some modems and router work with ADSL but not with ADSL2+. Some work, but not in a stable
manner. Theoretically, you can check the compatibility of your existing device in the user manual
and documentation you received with the purchase of that device. You can also check the website of
the vendor for the detailed specs of your device.
My phone does not support regular ADSL, will ADSL 2PLUS work?
Well, that depends on the reason why it did not work with ADSL. If this was because of technical
issues with the line or with the central office your phone line belongs to, then such problems need to
be resolved first before attempting to get ADSL 2PLUS.
Why isn’t ADSL/ADSL 2PLUS available for my phone line?
There may be a number of reasons that the exchange hasn't been enabled for ADSL 2PLUS:
Too many customers on the exchange. Please check back in a few days.
Not enough customers on the exchange.
Lack of floor space in the exchange
Lack of Main Distribution Frame (MDF) space
For the exact reason for your specific case, please call 19777 and consult one of our agents.
I’m an existing TE Data ADSL customer, can I upgrade to ADSL 2PLUS?
Yes you can. You just need to have a CPE (modem or router) that supports ADSL2+. If you bought or
rented your CPE from TE Data in the last year or so, then your CPE will most probably is ADSL2+
I’m already a TE Data ADSL user, how do I upgrade to ADSL 2PLUS?
Please call TE Data call customer care at 19777. Your order for upgrade will be taken and shortly
afterwards, one of our technical agents will call you to test the max speed that your line can hold.
Once that is determined, a sales agent will call you to choose the speed you wish to upgrade to
within that allowable max speed. Extra payment will be arranged to cover the difference between
your original ADSL and the new ADSL 2PLUS speed.
I don’t have ADSL so far but I want to get TE Data ADSL 2PLUS, what should I do?
Please check service availability for your phone number online at our home page. If you get
confirmation that service is available at your exchange, then please visit one of our customer service
offices to fill an application and subscribe. Your initial payment will be for 4Mbit/s. Once service is
provisioned and your line is ready, we will test your line for max possible speed. One the max
attainable speed is known, you can upgrade the speed to the highest speed possible immediately.
I’m a new TE Data customer, why do I have to subscribe to 4Mbit/s first and not to 24Mbit/s at
Although the technology allows speeds up to 24Mbit/s, phone lines do not always support such
speeds. Nobody can determine the maximum ADSL 2PLUS speed that your phone line can support
until service is actually up. So we start the service at the minimum which is 4Mbit/s and then take
the speed up as high as your line allows. We don’t want to just charge you fully upfront. We want to
make sure that you get what you pay for. This is meant to be for your best interest.
I have ADSL from another provider, but I want to have TE Data ADSL 2PLUS, what should I do?
You will first need to finalize any pending payments with that provider. You will also need to give
back any equipment or devices that belong to that other provider, such as modems and routers.
Then you need to officially ask your provider to cancel your subscription. You must ask for a
“cancellation number” as a proof of cancellation. Once you receive that number, please visit us at
the nearest customer service office and we’ll get you hooked to our network in a few days.
Fair Use Policy
What is Fair Use Policy?
Fair use policy makes sure that you get fast and reliable ADSL connection at all times. By subscribing
to TE Data ADSL or ADSL 2PLUS, you virtually own part of our network. We try to make sure that no
other user abuses the network in a way that affects your share of the network.
Why do we have Fair Use Policy?
A very small number of our customers use their broadband service inappropriately. For example,
some people share their ADSL connection with their neighbors or their friends over WiFi or through
cables. Such unlawful act overloads the network with unexpected and uncalculated traffic from the
extra computers connected to the network on that single ADSL line. This extra traffic and extra
number of users practically take the traffic and speed that was originally meant for legitimate ADSL
and ADSL 2PLUS users – effectively making their connection slow and sluggish.
The fair use policy monitors such unlawful and harmful behaviors, and takes the appropriate actions
once it’s evident that these users are abusing network resources and affecting quality of service
offered to the rest of users. This is basically to make sure that our ADSL and ADSL 2PLUS services are
offered fairly to everyone.
How does Fair Use Policy work?
Traffic volume for each ADSL and ADSL 2PLUS line is counted on monthly basis. When traffic
volumes of a certain line reaches a certain limit that denote that the line is being used for illegal
sharing or abusive personal activities that affects the rest of users, the speed automatically drops to
64Kbps till end of the subscription month. The speed goes back to normal at the beginning of the
So what is the traffic volume allowed by the Fair Use Policy?
Traffic volumes vary from one speed to another. So it’s usually between 100-150 GB per month.
I’m a normal ADSL customer; does the Fair Use Policy apply to me?
Yes, we do apply this policy to both TE Data ADSL and ADSL 2PLUS customers as we like to guarantee
quality of service offered to all users.
Am I likely to be affected by the Fair Use Policy?
The 100-150GB allowance is HUGE! It allows you to download 60 large full movies, 10,000 songs,
browse the Internet for endless number of hours, and send/receive 2 million emails each month! So,
if you don't share your ADSL line with others then it's very unlikely you'll ever be affected by this
Is line sharing really illegal or are you just trying to sell more?
Line sharing is really unlawful and illegal. It is also not safe for users to share one ADSL line. Please
