                          2010-2011 Youth Commissioner Application

Dear Principal, Teacher, Student Advisor, or Youth Leader:

Do you know a youth that would answer yes to any or all of the questions below?

 Do you want to become an active player in the public policies affecting your community?
 Do you want to bring youth voices into local decision making?
 Do you want to learn how to do youth-led research to stimulate community change?

If you answered yes, please encourage the youth to apply to be a board member of the
El Dorado County Youth Commission. This year the application is one simple step.
Either share the application included or just have youth use a sheet a paper to tell us
what motivates them to take ACTION in 200 words or less. Then let the youth know to
call Carol at 621-5507 to schedule an interview to be held on September 20th through
22nd afterschool. Last tell them to bring their essay with them to the interview.

The El Dorado County Youth Commission (YC) works alongside the El Dorado County
Board of Supervisors (BOS) to ensure the voice of today’s youth is heard. The YC is
operated through the University of California Cooperative Extension 4H Youth
Development program.

While on the YC youth learn skills that help them become decision makers in their
community. Past board members have helped reopen Joe’s Skate Park, developed an
environmental vision, led studies on health related issues, and worked on difficult
issues like bullying. This year youth board members will work together with youth in the
community to identify current issues and take ACTION.

If you have any further questions, please contact Carol Martin, University of California
Cooperative Extension, 4-H Youth Development program at (530) 621-5507.

Thanks for you interest.
