Dear Parents, Welcome and thank you for your involvement in our youth baseball & softball program. This will be our third year offering youth baseball & softball. If you should have questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact our office. Otherwise, please be patient with us as we work out the “kinks” from last year and try to make this year even better. Our intentions are good. However, experience is the best teacher and we anticipate having to make adjustments in the future. Furthermore, through our program, your child will have the opportunity to develop life long skills; including competition, confidence, leadership, patience, persistence, respect, sportsmanship, teamwork, and dealing with winning and losing. However, these benefits, among many others, are contingent upon the behavior of the players, parents of the players, coaches and officials. A child’s environment affects the type of person he or she will grow up to be, especially when they are young. It is almost certain that players, coaches and umpires alike will make mistakes. Therefore, it is extremely important for all of us to set good examples for the children in our programs by remaining calm and patient. How we support our players, coaches and officials and how we interact with other adults greatly influences everyone’s enjoyment. Thank you for your understanding and support! Sincerely, Casey Reed Recreation Coordinator for Springfield Township Parks & Recreation

General League Information
PRACTICES: Will be scheduled by each team’s head coach according to his/her schedule and the players’ schedules. All practices must be scheduled through the Parks & Recreation Office. Refer to tentative schedule on page 2 for practice start dates. GAMES: Will be scheduled by the Parks & Recreation Office. Tentative game dates, times and locations are found on page 7. In case of inclement weather, games will be rescheduled for Friday evenings and/or Saturday afternoons of the same week. Game dates, times and locations are subject to change at the discretion of the STPR staff. TEAM FORMATION: Co-Ed T-Ball Clinic, Co-Ed T-Ball and Coach Pitch Leagues will be formed by the Parks & Recreation Office according to, but not limited to, any or all of the following: family, school, neighborhood and previous team/coach. Baseball and Softball 9 & 10, 11 & 12, 13 & 14 North Oakland Big League Baseball & Softball Travel Leagues will be formed at a Coaches Draft night. Children of the head coach, assistant coach and sponsor will automatically be placed with their parent, when it is age appropriate. All head coaches and players will receive a uniform t-shirt and hat. Players in the girls & boys leagues starting with 9 & 10 years of age and older, including the travel teams, will receive pants. CONDUCT OF PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS: The philosophy of this league is “to encourage players to LEARN while having FUN in the process!” By participating in this league, children will be given the opportunity to develop lifelong skills. Therefore, good principles and good sportsmanship must always be encouraged by everyone. Poor sportsmanship should never be directed toward any player, coach, official or spectator and will not be tolerated. Umpires may eject un-sportsman-like players, coaches and spectators from the games and the park. PLAYING UP: If you are interested in having your child play up a written letter must be received by the Springfield Township Parks & Recreation office with you registration form. The letter must state why you believe your child should play up and that you are taking all responsibility for any and all issues that may result because of the age difference between your child and the league you are requesting they are being placed in. Before teams are picked the Springfield Township Parks & Recreation Ball Committee will decide whether or not your request will be fulfilled and will let you know at that time. PRACTICES: Any and all practices must be held at a Springfield Township Parks & Recreation Ball Field. Practices are NOT to be held at a coach’s home or another offsite location. If you have a coach that has scheduled practice offsite please contact the Springfield Township Parks & Recreation office as soon as possible because this is a huge liability issue.
