For engineering students who will complete senior projects in Spring 2010

The mission of this program is to introduce engineering students to entrepreneurial skills needed
to turn engineering ideas into successfully marketed products or services.

Students who are selected for this internship will

     Participate in a two (2) week long experience at WSU. These will include 1) an
      Introduction to Entrepreneurship, 2) an experience a local small private company, 3) an
      experience with a WSU lab, the WSU Research Foundation and spin off companies, 4) oral
      communications “boot camp” 5) an Introduction to Marketing and Finance and 6)
      interviews with entrepreneurs and patent attorneys.
     Participate in a one week experience in the Silicon Valley with entrepreneurs, patent
      lawyers and venture capitalists (paid by the program).
     Participate in a paid internship in industry for eleven weeks (The College of Engineering
      and Architecture will make every effort to identify internships for students). During this
      internship, develop a technology based entrepreneurial business idea for presentation at the
      end of the summer
     Participate in a one week session at WSU at the end of the summer to 1) continue with
      some activities from the beginning of the summer and 2) work on developing
      entrepreneurial ideas into projects and forming teams
     Enroll in Entrepreneurship 496 in the Fall 2009 semester to team with business students to
      develop a business plan for entrepreneurial ideas developed over the summer.
     Complete the senior design project in Spring 2010 based on the plans developed in the Fall.

Students who are selected will be given a $2500 scholarship ($1250 in the Spring and $1250 in
the Fall) and, in addition, will earn a salary for their eleven week internship.

Eight internships will be awarded to students from the College of Engineering.

How to Apply:
Write a (maximum) two page cover letter explaining why you believe you should be selected for
this internship. Attached to this cover letter should be a transcript, your resume and an
endorsement from a faculty member in your school or department. Although not necessary, your
application will be more competitive if you describe an idea for a product or service that you
would like to develop. The letter should be addressed to Assoc. Dean Robert Olsen, College of
Engineering and Architecture, Washington State University, Pullman, WA 99164-2713. It can be
either delivered to Dana Hall 138 or sent by e-mail to bgolsen@wsu.edu. Students who are
selected will be evaluated on the written materials and an interview.
