Healthy Recipes and Snack Ideas Breakfast Egg in a Basket Spray frying pan with no-fat cooking spray Tear hole in center of slice of whole wheat bread Place slice in pan and crack egg in hole Cook 2 minutes, flip, and cook until egg is set Waffle Wonder Toast a whole grain frozen waffle Place strawberries around the edge and top with blueberries Serve with side of low fat yogurt or flavored cottage cheese Breakfast Burrito Whisk together 2 eggs and 1/4 cup fat-free milk Scramble with diced red pepper in a skillet with nonstick cooking spray When set, spoon into a whole wheat tortilla Top with shredded low-fat cheddar cheese & salsa Roll up and enjoy Note: Make the night before and microwave for a quick and healthy breakfast Banana Breakfast Tostadas Cut whole wheat tortillas into quarters Spread light strawberry cream cheese (or other flavor) on tortilla Top with banana slice, fresh fruit, nuts Smoothies With a little ice, fruit, yogurt and juice you can whip up a healthy snack that your kids will love. Just combine all ingredients in a blender and whip until smooth. Try the combinations below, or have your child help create their own Red & White 4 strawberries, 1 banana, 1 container low-fat vanilla yogurt, 1 cup OJ Cool Blue 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries, 1 container low-fat blueberry yogurt, 1 cup 100% grape juice Just Peachy 1 cut up peach or 1 cup frozen peaches, 1 container low-fat peach yogurt, 3/4 cup OJ Snacks & Beverages  Dried fruits  Fruit salad (let children pick out what fruits to include and have them help to make)  Popsicles (100% fruit juice)  Fresh Veggies (carrot sticks, broccoli, celery, pepper strips, cherry tomatoes). Serve with low-fat dressing, peanut butter, salsa.  Ants on a Log (Spread peanut butter on celery and top with raisins)  Whole-grain crackers. Serve plain or top with peanut butter or low-fat cheese  Granola or Cereal bars (look for whole grain bars low in fat and sugars)  Water  Low-fat and fat-free milk  100% fruit juice (to make a healthy ‘soda’, combine 100% fruit juice with seltzer, sparkling water or club soda)
