Mals Consolidated Recipes4 How do make mousses out of shake sachets? TalkingSeal I was just wondering how do you make a mousse out of the shake sachet? I've heard you add 100 ml of frozen water, is this right? Thanks 100mls very cold water and then pop into the freezer for a little while ( I think) do a search with the top button using the word mousse and see what comes UP Froggie tigana I use about 100mL of icy cold water and blend with a bamix/stick mixer; it thickens quicker then. I put it in the freezer for about 15-20 mins so it's icy around the edges but still gooey in the middle and then blend it up again, sometimes with fruit. Speedster I add 2 heaped teaspoons of Simply Fibre and a tab more water and it really thickens the shakes up. Not quite a mousse but I guess with less water it'd be close. Be sure to use chilled water and refrigerate to have it set. Savory Dip Klutzy Hey all, Had the munchies today so cut up lots of vege sticks (carrot, celery, capsicum, snow peas, green beans) and had them with the salsa I made a while ago (recipe posted on here) and then decided to make a dip with some philly I had in the fridge. I added fresh basil & chives and then onion flakes & powdered garlic. Well, it was yummy. I really like dips so this hit the mark for me, you could add whatever herbs you like. Salsa Aquarius34 In a blender/mix master put in chopped tomatoes, zuccini, onions ( whatever veges you like) garlic & herbs and blend. I then cook in a saucepan for a while as i don't like raw onions. the dip is yummy with snow peas, carrots etc. It's even nice when its warm and can be used as a sauce on meat & chicken. Salmon with Macadamia Salsa Sue Salsa 1 avocado, skinned, seeded and diced 1/2 - 1 mango or other fruit as desired, skinned, seeded and diced 1/3 cup (50g) macadamia nuts, unsalted, chopped (serve yours before adding) 1 lime, juiced and zest from rind (or use lemon if you don't like it too sour) 1/4 cup coriander leaves Combine all above ingredients in bowl. Season to taste. Add some soy sauce if its too tangy for you. You could add some chilli if you like it hot. Salmon 1 tblsp oil or use spray 200g salmon per person Heat oil and cook salmon skin side down first until crisp. Season to taste. Serve salad leaves to serve wedge of lime Place salad leaves in wide bowl, place salmon on top, heap salsa over salmon. Enjoy! Optional Shred some kaffir lime leaves to put over salmon while cooking for extra flavour. Pizza's and pies TF style WannaBslinkee Hi..reading over some recipes has been good. I'll add one of mine. I try not to vary too much from what the family is having...So Pasta night for instance the bol. sauce is totally TF and the children and Daddy have it on pasta with cheese and I have mine on Steamed Cauli and broc. (the kids haven't even noticed! everyones' happy! hehe) Another trick I love is to use a little crepe pan to dry fry an egg and thinly as I can and use this as my pizza base. I then make mine along side to the others, using tom. puree, heaps of mushies, about 50gms of lean shaved ham spread out, onions sliced thinly, caps, anything from our lists you like, really. I miss the pizza cheese, but make do with a tiny bit of ricotta blended with some allowed f'free mayo sprinkled over in places. It's floppy...but passes. The thinnly fried egg can even pass for pastry...I use them to line a single serve pie tin, fill with a savory filling using the other half of my protein, water, stock powder, soy, w'ster, mushies, celery...again, anything from our lists is cool. Instead of mashed potato for a shepherds pie, my pie has mashed caulie. I guess it's not quite as nice, but losing this weight 'o mine is so important to me. All the best.... Yummy Roasted Vegetables prindy I have been experimenting with all the different ways to have vegetables. i made a really nice mix last night that we are having it again tonight I cut up in chunks 1 red capsicum,1 green capsicum, 1 onion, 5 large mushrooms, 1 zuccini, 1 eggplant, 3 squash and any other vege;s on the list you want to add add 3 cloved diced garlic, grated ginger, lime juice, lemon juice, oregano and salt and pepper. Roast int he oven for about 40 minutes!!!! MMMmmmmMMMMM spunky lady Hi Prindy, I also am a big fan of baked vegies, particularly in the colder weather. Thanks for the dressing hint. Sounds great I'll definely give this a go... I usually drizzle balsamic vinegar over mine before baking. They are even yummier if you serve them with the Paul Newman Caesar Dressing. Cheers Tracey shrinking violet I luv roasted veges. The other sauce I use is blended cauliflower with a little ricotta cheese. Its like a cheese sauce but more cauliflowery. V. Sang Chow Bow - Pork Mince possum_here Ingredients 120g Pork Mince (Heart smart woolies) Celery, Carrot, Onion, Zuccini, Brocolli, BuckChoy, capscium, mushroom, choko Dice up all allowed vege's to small pieces Method Dry fry the mince in fry pan, half way add the vege's place a lid on so they steam a little which will add a little liquid from the vege's. For the soup heat oil large saucepan added garlic, onion, celery and carrot and cook until onion is soft, stir constantly. Add tomato and stock and bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer 10 mins. Does anyone else have anymore variations with their shakes? Id love to hear somemore ideas. helleva I put oranges in my chocolate shake to make it a jaffa, I also add strawberries to the vanilla one or sometimes I put some mango in the vanilla one also, tastes pretty good. i usually just squeeze the juice out of the orange and the pour it in, i guess a whole orange would be fine or i use the orange juice and freeze it then use the ice cubs and crush them when blending up the shake. Tarz My ultimate fave is the french vanilla, with a banana blended through it..!! TOO GOOD!!! Just like a banana paddle pop!!! I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the chocolate one, made with about 130ml water.. then FROZEN!! Just like choc icecream.. especially yum when the middle not fully frozen so it's like a gooey mousse in the middle.. Thats a real treat!!! YUMMMMMMMMM roxygirl I sometimes add a tiny drop of peppermint essence to my choc shake to make a choc mint mix. lizzibelle Oh Tarz you are a legend... That sounds SO good! I blend my vanilla shake with nutmeg (tastes a bit like the rice pudding my mum makes) and sometimes with banana and nutmeg. The spice just adds some kick. And the banana really makes you go all morning without being hungry. Not that I ever am nowadays! Sassy Hi I make my shake into a custard by mixing 1 tsp of Gelatin with boiling water, add cold water up to 200mls, add shake, whip with beater or stab mixer and refrigerate.....yummy. Phyllis Micky Hey Guys, I tried this on sunday (last) and I'm 100% sold . I halved everything and added ginger and celery and even my 81 year old father said it was "hey, that's not bad ". this (unbelieviably ) really tasts like fried rice , I would not use. the added salt and would just use the soy sauce in future. But WOW. Fold foil, place in baking dish and bake in very hot oven about 10 min or until fish is cooked through. Nice and qiuck. Bon appetite! Warm Calamari Salad BrisVegas Girl This is a really quick and easy meal but tastes amazing. I used 2 calamari hoods and cut them into small squares then scored them on one side (make sure that you use a sharp knife as they are really tough). I tossed these with salt, pepper and crushed garlic and then put them aside to marinate while I made the salad. Salad was mixed lettuce leaves, cherry tomatoes, grated carrot, sliced mushrooms, a couple of olives, and a small amount of ricotta. You could use anything from our allowed salad list really. I also used a small amount of salad dressing (any low carb style would do, I used Paul Newman classic). I threw the calamari into a hot pan that had been sprayed with cooking oil. The pieces only took about 1 minute to curl up and be ready. Then throw them onto the salad and it is ready to eat. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Baked Ricotta recipe kkys A different way to eat your Ricotta portion it is delicious! 120gr Ricotta 1 tbsp Parsley and 1 tbsp of chives ( or any other herbs you like) 1 clove of garlic salt and pepper to taste mix it all together and pop in a small ramekin or a muffin mould and bake at 180 for 15-20 mins until set and browned around the top edge(watch this time, all ovens are different) sweet tooth Minny I know you have all probably heard this before. But I make jelly jubes/lollies using 1 pkt diet jelly 1 heaped tsp gelatine and 1 cup boiling water. When set cut into jube/lolly shapes. Yuuuum. I also have been making ice poles by pouring diet lemonade or diet cordial and water made up into ice pole moulds and freezing, you could even use the shakes it would be like an ice cream. These help me when I feel like something extra. M Frozen shakes Up for the fight you can freeze shakes. Once or twice when we have had people over for dinner i make mine into a ice cream by freezing it during dinner i have whatever veggies i make and no protien that night , ihave it earlier in the day, so when i serve everybody dessert i have my "ice cream" really make me part of it all Suz317 I put the chocolate shake into the iceblock containers, its great because it feels like I'm eating a chocolate billabong or paddlepop. Angelpacific I totally love this this recipe and thought I would share it with you great bunch of fellow TFers! 120g - Green Raw Prawns (Deli section of Coles, BiLo or Woolworths). Place mixture in loaf tin & chill for one hour. Slice & serve as a main meal or use as a pate type dip. This really is yummy, expecially on melba toast Enjoy, Pat patko another great way to have ricotta as a sweet is to have half your ricotta allowance, mix with an egg and vanilla & bake. IT IS DELICIOUS. Must be your protein serve for the day though. BUT so indulgent. You can find lots of ricotta recipes if you do a search on South Beach recipes. Not all are suitable, but a lot are as that is a low carb diet also. just_amy :P I take about 3 or four leaves and mix it with a heaped teaspoon of ricotta, you can use cottage cheese if you don't like ricotta. i get half a skinless chilcken breast, cut it down the middle and smoosh it all into the chicken, it dosent all fit but the rest i pile on top and it goes nice and crispy. i roast it with some veggies and YUM sooooooooooooo good (maintenance). Mmmmm... Curried Egg danik_185 I love curried egg sandwiches and I thought I wouldn't deny myself the delicious curried egg inside. Instead of bread I used celery to hold my yum curried egg and it was surprisingly good. So if you are feeling like something different for your protien portion I recommend it! Oh! forgot to add.... For those who dont know how to make curried egg(Had to ask mum myself ) 2 hard boiled eggs, 1 tsp curry powder and about 2tsp of the allowed (treats) 97% fat free mayo or dijonaise mash then fill your celery A Bugs Life That made me think of something really yummy my mum used to make, boil an egg (or 2 in our case), cut in half, scoop out the yolk, mash with mayo and curry power and some chives and then put that mixture back into the bit it came out of (if that makes sense). absolutely delish! actually she used to pipe it back in swirls , but then again it was the seventies! tigana We used to add some gherkin relish to our deviled eggs but that's not allowed But I have managed to find some low-carb gherkins which I have very occassionally; so if you just blend them up a bit, or chop them up really small, then that works as a treat too. YiannaParis I make curried eggs like this (I don't know if it's allowed though ?!) uM, the hard boiled eggs, curry powder, worcestershire (i think its how its spelt) sauce, tomato sauce, pepper and salt, all add to taste. Its definately yummo ! redbec Hi all I make curried eggs and wrap it in lettuce leaves! My BMI is 40 so i have it as my extra protein quite often! I also make tacos in lettuce leaves too! Just a suggestion!! Bec Apricot Chicken redbec Hi all I am pretty sure that this complies with TF rules, but am not too sure about the dried apricots when cooked(as we can't have fresh ones!) Anyway here goes! 1 serve chicken breast diced 1/2 onion sliced 5 dried apricots finely sliced 1 teaspoon vege stock powder 2 teaspoon sweetner Water Saute onion in saucepan. Add apricots, sweetener, stock and 1 cup water. Bring to boil and simmer for 15 mins or so. Add water as it evaporates. When apricots have fully reconstituted, add chicken and simmer till chicken fully cooked. Add water as necessary while cooking. Serve with notoatoes mash and steamed vegies! Serve any extra suace over veges too! Very nice! You could also put cooked sauce and raw chicken in casserole dish and finish it in the oven I suppose! This was an experiment of mine that turned out quite nice! I made double the sauce mix, then halved it before adding the chicken. I was going to freeze the other half for later in the week, but ended up having it the next night again it was so good! If any one has any reasons that this is not OK, can someone let me know! Thanks Bec Tacos Tacos Yum! redbec Hi all Have been making these for a while before even starting TF so i was pleased to find that i could still have them! Meat Portion of lean mince or finely diced staek 1 finely diced tomato 1/2 onion diced 1/2 red capsicum diced sml amount chilli flakes/powder 1 tsp beef stock powder/cube 1 clove garlic seasoning to taste 1/2 cup water Brown mince, onion and garlic. add all other igredients and simmer. Season to taste. Serve in indivual lettuce leaves with salsa if needed. Smaller amounts of meat in each means you can have more of them! Tastes good and doesn't feel like diet food at all. I suppose you could put some cheese on if you wanted to be naughty!! tigana And these are better cause the lettuce leaves don't break like tacos do! If you're wanting to have enchiladas, you can wrap your meat in a lightly steamed lettuce leaf before putting it in the oven with your sauce over the top. Works about the same. If you have a food processor, you can mince up your vegies and add them to the sauce mixture so you have the right proportion of meat to vegies for your meal. Crz7n3 i make it with cabbage instead of lettuce. i either use raw cabbage or cooked just as good with lettuce. Sevvy Hi Everyone, I know I am slightly behind the ball on this one, it’s sort of a mixture of ideas I found I suppose But its my SAVIOUR for those cravings. I am not a huge fan of jelly but this stuff is honestly great and looks fantastic. Its time consuming but definitely worth it. AND LOOKS FUN! Ingredients: 1 Sachet Strawberry Aeroplane Lite Jelly (of course you can chose your faves) 1 Sachet Lime Aeroplane Lite Jelly 1 Sachet Pineapple Aeroplane Lite Jelly 2 cups Hot Water 2 cups Diet Lemonade Method: Pour 2/3 cup of hot water into a bowl and empty contents of 1st sachet of your choice to dissolve, stir well until no lumps of crystals remain. Let cool slightly. Then add 2/3 cup of diet lemonade and stir through slowing cos it sometimes fizzes up, but will go down. Pour out mixture into a square low container (about 20cm by 20cm doesn’t need to be exact) or a jelly mould, place into the fridge and let set. After 2 hours repeat first step with the next colour, Layer it above the first layer and let set again for 2 hours and then add the last layer. This will make 3 even rows of each colour. I start making this when I get home, and third layer is done before I go to bed so when I wake up in the morning its ready to turn out and cut it up into even cubes. It lasts me a few days. You can have it on its own or have it with your fruit allowance from the allowed list or even have it instead of your fruit with carb-smart ice-cream. For anyone who remembers (sorry to do this to all of you), when Pizza Hut had all you can eat dine-in restaurants (not many left), or I even think sizzlers had em, it was those red and green jelly cubes that gave me the idea, and because its less fluid its got a perfect consistency to cut up. I Hope You Enjoy Smoked Tuna Salad justnatural I dont usually like salad but this tasted great, the smoked tuna tasted like chicken. Ingredients: 125g Tin John West Smoked Tuna Slices in vegetable oil 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes 2-3 mushrooms diced good handful of baby salad leaves 1-2 celery sticks finely sliced 20-40ml Paul Newmans own Salad Dressing Method: put all ingredients into a salad bowl, toss so tuna is mixed into salad and dressing is over the salad and enjoy! Calamari Recipes Fatboy Slim Following is a recipe for Cajun Calamari so you need to like spicy food. It is based on 600gm's of calamari so dine with some no TFers or exercise portion control. This is also for full hoods not rings but you could always use rings. 600g Large Calamari hoods 1/4 cup of lemon juice 2 cloves of garlic, crushed 2 teaspoons of tomato paste 1 teaspoon of garam marsala 2 teaspoons of ground coriander 2 teaspoons of paprika 2 teaspoons of seasoned pepper 2 teaspoons of caster suger (but TFers use artifical sweetner) 1 tablespoon of grated fresh ginger 1 tablespoon of olive oil 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg pinch of chilli powder Wash calamari, removing any membrane, pat dry with a paper towel. Use a sharp knife and cut through one side of the hood to make a large flat peice. With inside facing up score the flesh diagonally, in a criss-cross pattern, taking care not to cut all the way through. Then against the grain of this scoring slice flesh into long strips about 2cm's thick. Combine all the ingredients, except the squid, in a bowl and mix well. Then add the squid and stir in. Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Prepare and heat BBQ for 1 hour before cooking. Cook the calamari and marinade on a hot, lightly greased BBQ plate for 2 minutes or until flesh curls and turns white. Remove from the heat and serve immediately. I hope this helps. Mike Cauliflower Rice Franca INGREDIENTS:  1 head cauliflower (or however much you want) PREPARATION: To make this dish the most easily and to have it come out the best, three pieces of equipment are very helpful: - A food processor - A microwave - A covered (or fairly tightly coverable) microwave-safe dish 1) Process fresh cauliflower until it is the size of rice, either using the plain steel blade or the shredder blade. Alternatively, you can shred it with a hand-held grater, or even use a knife, if you have the dexerity to chop it up VERY finely. 2) Microwave it in a covered dish. DO NOT ADD WATER. Cauliflower absorbs water like crazy, and the "granules" will become gummy. To keep it fluffy, just let the moisture in the cauliflower do its work. Carb Count: Each cup contains 5 grams of carbohydrate, about half of which is fiber, for a ECC of 2.5 grams. I have been trying to find some low carb vegetable dishes and so far this is the best one i have come up with, I havent tried it myself but i going to asap! 3 minute vegetarian stroganoff VegJodie Hi all, I've been reading all of your fabulous recipes and getting totally excited about the wide and varied choices there are when a little creativity is let loose. Thank you for all of them. Today I came home from church famished and wanted to cook up something tasty that didn't take much time. I'm eating it as we speak and thought it was time I shared with you. 3 min Stroganoff Half head of small broccoli including stalks 6-7 small button mushrooms 1 small onion ½ clove garlic 1 packet TF mushroom soup mix ¼ bunch parsley 1 zucchini, peeled lengthways all the way through Dilute the mushroom soup in half the (boiling) water normally required. Set aside. Fry in a small amount of oil the roughly chopped onion and garlic. Add the chopped broccoli (cut each floret into 2) & chopped parsley. Cook for 1 minute and add extra cold water if needed to stop the veggies from burning: the broccoli should absorb most of the water very quickly and keep it quite green. Add mushrooms and soup mix and cook for a further 2 minutes. Serve on a bed of uncooked zucchini, slithered lengthways (like pasta). This is a very filling dish, so leave it on a day when you have little time but a big craving for a satisfying meal. This dish is a little unconventional having broccoli but I tend to put broccoli in everything. It's my favorite food. It's also been a long time since I've eaten stroganoff (reminds me of my childhood actually), so I can't actually remember the details and I've been vego for so many years that I can't remember what meat would go in it! For memory though, I think that a tomato goes in there somewhere too. Forgot it this time! Don't underestimate how filling it is. It's great - perhaps particularly for those starting out, this would be a good one to try. I struggling to get through all of mine today I hope you can use it and enjoy it as much as I did. Vegie Mince on notatoes Tarsh Sparkleworks Hi everyone Cooked up a batch of TVP last night with notatoes & it was to die for. Throw in a couple of tomatoes, half an eggplant, half a large zucchini, capsicum (green & red), half an onion, spinach and allowed herbs with some TVP. Sprinkle with some vegie stock to add an extra special something and cook with lid on (I lightly sprayed pan with olive oil & used water). It was delicious, and I had enough left over for dinner tonight. Hope you enjoy it as well. Oh for the husband and kids, I teamed it with some pasta & grated cheese. Jerusha What is the TVP you refered to? Tarsh Sparkleworks TVP: Textured Vegetable Protein Its made from defatted soy flour and caramel and in 50g there's 0.5g fat, 26.5g of protein, and 15.5g of carbohydrates. It has the same look and texture as mince meat when hydrated. Its generally used by vegetarians as a protein hit in meals and can be used in place of mince in recipes, i.e. bolognaise, shepherds pie, etc.. It is bland on its own, but once you add other ingredients to it, it takes their flavours and is very nice to eat. Highly recommend if you have a slightly adventurous side to you, and good to know that when you buy a 200g net bag, you get 4 serves (which equals 4 meals) and it's only $2.95. Very economical!!! New idea for Jelly! MissL Necessity must be the mother of invention! Using a hand blender, whiz together 1 Packet of silken tofu (the very soft kind) 1 sachet of diet jelly, dissolved in 1/4 cup water Let it set in the fridge and it's just like a fruit mousse. I'm no fan of tofu and it was pretty good. Use more water if you want it less set. It's a FANTASTIC way for us vego's to get in protein without it being fake meat stuff. You could even blend in fresh fruit if you wanted. Strawberries with strawberry jelly would be lovely. I used the only flavour of jelly I had. (port wine) Marshmallow jelly thanks Spongebob Thanks for the people who posted the jelly into marshmallow recipe, I gave it a go with the strawberry jelly sachet I had left. I then wanted to try a vanilla one, but when I found the splenda it was empty, so I used diet cordial instead, and made fruitcup flavoured marshmallows. For the cordial recipe I used 1/2 cup boiling water & 5 tablespoons gelatine mixed together to dissolve the gelatine. The added 1/2 cup diet cordial and mixed it around. Then used the whisk attachment on my stickblender to beat air into it until it got all thick and marshallowy. Then I put spoonfulls onto a tray, and they set in the fridge quite quickly. Has anyone experimented with water, splenda, gelatine and vanilla? I think it might work and taste like a normal marshmallow. My daughter (on TF) is intolerant to diet jelly/diet cordial (too many additives in them, and they make her very mean/moody), so I want to try making one without food additives). Ribena light (low carb) would make good jelly mallows, but unfortunately that makes my daughter mean too. Veges-arrrgh kaelajay Hi guys have just started and im def not a big vege eater, any recipe ideas where u could disguise the taste would be muchly appreciated i really want to succeed with this diet Yoeli =^,^= The secret to vegies is to make them interesting. If you chop up a whole heap of them - they always taste great mixed together, toss them into a pan and let them steam for a short time, then add: any herbs or spices that you like; your Green's gravy granules, which will give you some extra taste and also thicken your 'mix'; a teaspoon of either beef or chicken stock powder and either some curry powder or tabasco sauce. You'll find it makes a really nice stir fry kind of meal, especially if you add your 120 gms of protein to it. Sometimes, too many different vegies can be slightly overbearing, but just go with whatever takes your fancy - you can't go wrong. Or, what about lining a baking dish with some silverfoil, giving it a quick spray of canola oil and throwing in some tomatoes; squash; mushrooms; onion; capsicum; garlic and whatever really. Another quick spray of oil, a good sprinkle of your favourite herbs or spices and baking them in the oven @ 180° for about an hour. That's nice too. Anyway, good luck with it .. .. I'm sure you'll soon become very inventive as time goes on - we do! LOL crazycatlady Vegetable Rissoles are a great way of disguising the flavour. Chop onion, carrot, zucchini and capsicum really finely with a food processor and add to mince with a little worcestershire sauce, tomato paste mixed herbs and garlic. You can add a little bit of simply fibre if the mix is too wet. Form into rissoles and fry in a little olive oil. A nice tomato and onion gravy goes nicely with these How do you have your shake? I have it blended in a magic bullet type blender with ice (the $40 one from Homeart), so it is a big thick icy drink, like icecream really (use mostly ice and a bit of water, makes about 300-400mls of icecream). It totally wakes me up and get my brain working. My daughter (on TF) finds the same thing. There have been days when she has been too "sick" for school, but once she has her shake she is fine and goes to school happily. I've found that doing exactly the same thing with jarrah (in the blue tub) works the same way in waking me up and making me feel good. So I think it is the ice factor, rather than whatever is in the shakes that contribute to the feel good sensation. Vegie bake Carol52 Hi all I just made a great VEGE BAKE last night Zucchini, cauliflower, broccoli, button squash, shallot, capsicum, mushrooms all chopped into med. chunks. Lightly pan fried in a small amount of oil ( you could use spray) till just browned a bit. Poured into a shallow casserole dish and stirred in SPC crushed tomatoes with onion & garlic ( the one in a cardboard box - low in carbs) and sprinkled some parmesan (Pantelico - I think its called - the dry powdery one off the shelf not refrigerated - low in carbs) over the top and baked for about 20-30 mins depending on how much you have. You don't want to overcook. It was absolutely scrummy. Could be eaten on its own for lunch with a shake or I served with grilled chicken for dinner and gave hubby potato and pumpkin (or carrot). **PS: LEAVE OUT THE PARMESAN CHEESE it’s a no no until Maintnenace. Cheers - hope you emjoy Carol Tomato and Pepper Salsa lissypops1982 Serves 4 50KJ 0.6g Protein 2.6g Carbohydrate Ingredients *4 tomatoes, finely chopped *1 green chilli, finely chopped *1 red pepper, cored, deseeded and finely chopped *Gated rind and juice of 1 lime *2 tablespoons chopped parsley Mix together all the ingredients in a small bowl.
