Christmas Sugar Cookies 1 cup butter 1 egg 2 ½ cups flour 1 cup sugar
from Take Joy, by Tasha Tudor
pinch of salt (1/4 tsp.) 1 ½ tsp vanilla ½ tsp baking soda dissolved in 1 ½ tablespoons of milk
Put all ingredients into a large bowl and mix with hands till a smooth dough is formed. No amount of mixing seems to bother it. Form into a ball with flour and chill thoroughly before using. (You don’t have to do this; it just makes the dough easier to handle, less sticky.) Break into conveniently sized pieces, adding a bit more flour to make it easier to handle. (Be careful not to add too much or the cookies will be tough.) Roll out as thin as possible. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters. Dust with sugar and nutmeg. Bake at 350 deg. about 12 minutes. Check before that though. Sugar Cookies ½ cup plus an extra tablespoon Butter 1 cup sugar 1 egg 2 Tablespoons milk ½ tsp. salt 2 tsp. baking powder 1 ¾ cups flour 1 tsp. vanilla
Mix well and chill for a while. Roll as thin as possible and cut out shapes. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350 deg. (about 12-15 minutes) and watch carefully.
