A Full-Proof Study Method for Success on Tests
The Intial St ep bef ore PQ5R
Each night or at the least every second night, review
the lesson(s) taught. Rerun the class(es) in your
head. Check your objectives and form a question or
questions based on the objectives that were covered
in that class/those classes. Immedicately after
creating the question on your self-made test, add the
answer to the answer key(a separate sheet).
Three nights bef or e the t est:
1. PREVIEW (The “P”)
Look over ALL materials for the unit. Mentally recall
when each handout was given and what was said
about it. Look over ALL notes taken. Look through
ALL pages assigned in the textbook. Organize these
materials if necessary.
2. QUESTION (The “Q”)
Get out your self-made test and read each question
you have created. Put a check mark next to each
question YOU CANNOT answer orally. Count the
checks and divide by two.
3. The R’s: READ,RECORD,RECITE, REVIEW, and
One by one, study the material associated with each
checked question. Do half tonight and half tomorrow
evening. Study in this fashion:
READ--Read the material out loud.
RECORD and RECITE--Write down the main
ideas/answers to the question WHILE saying the
answer OUT LOUD to yourself.
REVIEW--Read the material silently.
REFLECT and REPHRASE--Read the question once
again and think about the answer. Then say the
answer again trying to use different words that mean
the same thing.
Repeat the previous process for every
