AIDS Action 2007: Prevent The race is on for a new way to prevent HIV—a microbicide—that would give women (and men) who have little say about relationships, sex and condoms a means to protect their sexual health. Tuesday, November 27, 2007 8:00 am to 8:00 pm 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Health Sciences Learning Center 750 Highland Ave Giving Women Power Over AIDS, walk-through exhibit, in the atrium In Women’s Hands, film and microbicides update, with refreshments, room 1309 Giving Women Power Over AIDS is a traveling walk-through exhibit about the race for a microbicide. It includes the moving photo-essay, In Her Mother’s Shoes, which illustrates the need for a microbicide through the story of Martha, a Zimbabwean girl and one of 11 million AIDS orphans in sub-Saharan Africa. In Women’s Hands is a short film featuring young women from around the world whose stories speak to the role microbicides could play, as well as the need for public, private and personal involvement in the push forward. After the film, join Jessica Terlikowski, Policy Coordinator with the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and microbicides advocate, for a microbicides update from the scientific and political fronts. This event is sponsored by the UW Health HIV Care Program and the UW Center for Global Health, in grateful recognition of the work of the Global Campaign for Microbicides. AIDS Action 2007: Advocate A crash course in how public HIV/AIDS policy is made, the important role of community voice in the process and opportunities for involvement…for everyone. Wednesday, November 28, 2007 9:00 am to 12:00 pm UW Health Sciences Learning Center 750 Highland Avenue Room 1244 With Jessica Terlikowski, Policy Coordinator, AIDS Foundation of Chicago. For better or worse, HIV/AIDS policy is often made by legislators who aren’t really aware of the issues or don’t have accurate information about them. To get good policies, people concerned about and living with HIV/AIDS have a responsibility to advocate for our communities and educate our lawmakers. This session is a place to learn how to start. Lesson one: it’s easier than you think. AIDS Action 2007: Connect A conversation with local faith leaders about their role in the fight against HIV/AIDS ignorance, intolerance and isolation.
