AuctionMaestro Pro may stop responding when connecting to .AUC
Document Sample

AuctionMaestro Pro may stop responding when connecting to
.AUC and .PEO databases stored on a Microsoft Vista Computer
Symptoms
• My .AUC and .PEO database files are being hosted (stored) on a computer running the
Microsoft Vista Operating System.
• I am able to have one computer connect to the databases without a problem.
• I am unable to connect to the databases with any other Microsoft Vista computers.
• Note 1: If the 2nd computer is already connected to the databases and is then 2nd+ computer to
open AM Pro, then the computer will hang on the AM Pro startup screen.
• Note 2: If the 2nd computer needs to select the new databases [1,1] then AM Pro will hang while
attempting to select these databases.
It can take 2‐3 minutes to select a pair of databases that are currently open by another user.
For additional information, please see the AM Pro Network Protocols document.

Issue
This issue is caused by a bug in the Microsoft Vista Operating System.
See Microsoft KB article 935366 ‐ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935366
Solution 1
Upgrade the Microsoft Vista Operating System to SP1. You can manually download it here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/bb738089.aspx
At the time of publication, this patch is 464 MBs in size.
Do not use this method unless you have plenty of time.
Solution 2
Place the databases (the .AUC and .PEO files) on a Windows XP machine.
Solution 3
You can submit a request directly to Microsoft for a hot fix that will solve this issue. You can find a link
to this request in Microsoft KB article 935366 ‐ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935366
While the Microsoft website says that it may take up to 8 hours to receive the hot fix, it may take longer.
Solution 4
Manually adjust the registry to disable the SMB2 Protocol on the server computer.
Only use this solution if you do not have the time or equipment to use one of the previous 3 solutions.
Improperly modifying or changing the registry can cause serious problems.
For additional protection, we recommend that you backup the registry before making any changes.
