Tips for using Gale Databases to find academic journal
Document Sample

Tips for using Gale Databases to find academic journal articles:
Make sure you have the green sheet with the logins and passwords if you are going to
use Gale outside of the school building.
Once you’ve logged in and are at the Gale Powersearch page, you have the choice of
searching most of the Gale databases at once, or of clicking on a particular database and
searching it individually. If you choose to search individual databases, you probably
want to look at Expanded Academic ASAP, General OneFile, or Student Resource Center
Bronze.
When you are in any of the databases, be sure to take advantage of the Advanced
Search feature. You will then have options in Advanced Search to limit your results as
to full text, peer reviewed, and document type.
Once you have your results, the tabs at the top of the page will tell you if the results
come from books, magazines, journals, etc. For a lit review and for scientific research,
you probably want the tab that says “academic journals.” Sometimes at the top of the
results list, you will have the option to check full text and/or peer reviewed (same as in
advanced search); however, not all Gale databases have those choices at the top of the
results list. That’s why the advanced search feature is important.
