Directions for finding and searching historical databases and encyclopedias from the Sage Park Library Home Page.
As of 2-11-04 1. Sign onto the computer as yourself with your Username and Password. 2. Open up the internet 3. Find the Sage Park library Home page www.windsorct.org/sagelmc 4. Click on the link for “Searching Tools” 5. When you get to the “Searching Tools” page, scroll down to “ICONN”. 6. Click on the school bus in ICONN. 7. Then find (on the right-hand side of the page) the link for the “Discovering Collection.” 8. In the search bar of the “Discovering Collection”, type in the name of your colony. 9. If in your results, you get the option for the Worldmark Encyclopedia of States, that is a good source. Click on the link to the History section in that source. 10. Check out the other sources available for your colony. When you are finished in the “Discovering Collection,” close the windows and get out of ICONN and go back to the “Searching Tools” page of the library home page. From there, check out the encyclopedias – Grolier Online and WorldBook Online. Look up your colony in each and find the History section in each – as well as any other section that you think might give you information about your colony. Tip: Remember, when you are looking for information on your colony in encyclopedias – you are mainly interested in information about your colony from the 17th (1600’s) and 18th (1700’s) centuries. For Worldbook Online and Grolier Online, use the “in school” links. If you would like to use these tools outside of school, you many get the passwords from your librarian.
