African American Experience An excellent source for historical information on Black Migration, contemporary jazz, or other African-Americanrelated issues, this database includes WPA slave narratives, music clips, texts, articles, photographs, maps and other primary documents; available from the library’s website. FC Search This CD-ROM database from the Foundation Center contains comprehensive records on U.S. private philanthropies and corporate giving programs, including extensive information about recent grants. This product allows users to create a list of potential funders and easily download search results to disk, or as email attachment, for research at home or office. Updated twice a year. ( Individuals can explore potential funding by limiting “type of support” to “grants for individuals.”) Available at all computers in the Business Department; ask a librarian to help. Foundation Directory Online Web-based portal to the Foundation Center’s database of private philanthropies and corporate giving programs. FD Online uses the same search fields as FC Search, but the information is updated regularly, and provides a good cross-reference to your FC search results. Grantsmanship Center Online Database Nonprofit organizations can search this database to discover funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government programs, with new announcements and deadlines added regularly. Available only at computers in the Business Department--ask librarian to log you in. GuideStar Use this database to identify and sort nonprofit organizations by category and geographic location. Visit www.guidestar.org on one of the Business Department computers, then ask librarian to log you on. iCONN Databases iCONN is especially useful for finding articles from popular magazines, professional journals, and newspapers on a wide range of subjects. iConn includes InfoTrac, for full-text magazine and journal articles; Business and Company Resource Center, for information about companies, products, associations, industries, financial analysis; Health and Wellness Resource Center, for full-text articles, a drug and herb finder, and a medical encyclopedia; ReQuest, a state-wide catalog of books and other materials owned by Connecticut libraries; and several more resources. Available in library or by remote access, with any CT library card. Reference U.S.A. Offers continuously updated information on U.S. businesses, including company executives, contact information, lines of business, and much more. The residential portion includes data on home values and other demographics. Users can create customized lists for marketing or other purposes and download into spreadsheet format.
