Cheryl Martin, Courier & Press
Cheryl Martin is the magazine editor at the
Courier & Press. She was born in Muncie,
Indiana but doesn’t really consider that
home. Her father was a minister so she
moved some. She and her husband, John
both work in newspapers, so they have
moved up the parkways from Bowling Green,
KY working at various papers. She obtained
her degree in Journalism from Western Ken-
tucky University. She and John have a 5
year old daughter, Caroline. She has been
an ANEW member for 1 year.
Cheryl shared these thoughts with us:
Most fulfilling job? Raising an empathetic, inquisitive daughter.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career? The biggest challenge has been
balancing two time-demanding careers (Cheryl’s and John’s) while making sure we connect as
a family.
Last book read? “The Berenstein Bears “B” Book” (Read with my daughter)
What do you value in friends? Loyalty
Dream job? If there were one where I can eat chocolate and read books all day (and never
gain weight), I’d take it!
Greatest Accomplishment ? Writing a novel and having the courage to send it out.
First paying job? One summer I was a telemarketer for Olan Mills.
When I was in high school I wanted to grow up to be? Ansel Adams
Thank you, Cheryl for sharing your personal life with us!

Peggy Lewis, Lewis Bakeries
Peggy Lewis, Executive Vice President of Lewis Bakeries has
been an ANEW member for 2 1/2 years. She and her husband,
Jack have a daughter, Christina, 16. After meeting on a busi-
ness sales call, they have been married for 21 years.
Peggy had these thoughts to share with us:
Three words that best describe you? Dedicated, Motivated and
Loving.
Most fulfilling job? The most fulfilling job I’ve ever had was be-
ing a mother; although all of my jobs have been fulfilling be-
cause I do what I enjoy.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?
The biggest challenge I’ve ever faced in my career was having to learn new government regulations
and re-design over 900 bread bags in 1994 to accommodate new regulations of the National Labeling
& Education Act. (NLEA)
How many different careers have you had and what were they? I have had four careers: 1). Sales and
marketing of several lines of plumbing supplies and fixtures to wholesalers. I traveled Western KY
and Southern IL. I was the first woman that most of these wholesalers had ever done business with.
2). Sales & Marketing of pressure-sensitive tape (industrial & electrical). I traveled Western KY and
3/4 of IN and called on original equipment manufacturers, distributors & wholesalers. 3). I had a
printing & mailing company. (self-employed) 4). My current position as Executive Vice President of
Lewis Bakeries.
What do you value in friends? I value in my friends are honesty, loyalty & being fun-loving.
First paying job? My first job as a teenager was selling concessions at the Triplets games.
Worst day in my life? The worst day of my life was when I was diagnosed with breast cancer 14 years
ago. Thankfully, I was successfully treated.
Best advice for a 20 yr old? My best advice for a 20 yr old is that everyone makes mistakes, but it’s
what you do after you make a mistake that separates the successful people from the unsuccessful
people. Also, look at life as a big story problem and take it a step at a time.
Best piece of advice anyone ever gave you? My husband gave me the best piece of advice: “Don’t look
back, they may be gaining on you.” - a quote from Satchel Paige, who was said to be the greatest
pitcher in the history of the Negro Leagues. He played for Cleveland, St. Louis and Kansas City.
Peggy manages to keep herself busy with involvement and support of the following community or-
ganizations:
