He rose again. He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father
Almighty. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy

VII. Prayer to St. Joseph (add in month of October)
To thee, O Blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our tribulations, and while imploring the aid of
thy most holy Spouse, we confidently invoke thy patronage also. By that love which united thee to
the Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God, and by the fatherly affection with which thou didst embrace
the Infant Jesus, we humbly beseech thee graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Chri st
purcha sed with His Blood and to help us in our necessi ties, by thy powerful intercession.
Protect, I most provident Guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen children of Je sus Chri st; ward
off from us, O most loving Father, all taint of error and corruption; graciously a ssi st us from
Heaven, O most power protector, in our struggle with the powers of darkne ss; and as thou didst
once rescue the Child Je sus from imminent peril to His life, so now defend the Holy Church of
God from the snares of her enemies and from all adversity.
Shield each one of us with thy unceasing patronage that, imitating thy example and sported by thy
aid, we may be enabled to live a good life, die a holy death, and secure everlasting happiness in
Heaven. Amen.
Latin Version: Oratio ad Sanctum Iosephum
Ad te beate Ioseph, in tribulatione nostra confugimus, atque, implorato Sponsae tuae
sancti ssimae auxilio, patrocinium quoque tuum fidenter exposcimus.
Per eam, quaesumus quae te cum immaculata Virgine Dei Genetrice coniunxit, caritatem, perque
paternum, quo Puerum Iesum amplexus es, amorem, supplices deprecamur, ut ad hereditatem,

Tuere, o Custos providenti ssime divinae Familiae, Iesu Chri sti sobolem electam; prohibe a nobis,
possimus. Amen.

Announcing & Pondering the Mysteries
Joyful Mysteries
Annunciation: Luke 1:31-32
And, behold, thou shalt concei ve in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name
Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give
unto him the throne of hi s father David.
Let us consider in thi s mystery, how the Angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town called
Nazareth, to a Virgin whose name was Mary, Betrothed to a man named Joseph. And, when the
Angel had come to her, he said: "Hail, full of grace, the Lord i s with thee. Blessed art thou among
women." And when Mary heard these words she was troubled, and kept wondering what manner
of greeting this might be. But, the angel said to her: "Do not be afraid Mary, for thou has found
grace with God. And Behold, thou shall conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a Son; and thou
shall call His name Jesus.
And, He shall be great, and be called the Son of the Most High.
And, Mary said to the Angel: "How shall this happen, since I do not know man?" And, the Angel
answered, and said to her: "The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee; and therefore the Holy One to
be born shall be called the Son of God.
And behold, Elizabeth, thy kinswoman also has conceived a son in her old age, for with God
nothing i s impossible."
Mary, bowing her head in humility answered: "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done unto
me according to thy word." And the Angel departed from her.
Visitation : Luke 1:42-45
And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, an d blessed i s the
fruit of thy womb. And whence i s thi s to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For,
lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for
joy. And blessed i s she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were
told her from the Lord.
Let us consider in thi s mystery, how the Blessed Virgin Mary arose and went to the hill country to
the town of Juda, to visit her cousi n Elizabeth, who in her old age was soon to give birth to Saint
John the Bapti st. No sooner did Mary enter the house, than Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit
cried out with a loud voice, saying: "Ble ssed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy
womb. And have I deserved that the Mother of my Lord should come to me?
For behold, the moment that the sound of thy greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb
leapt for joy. And blessed is she who has believed, because the things promi sed her by the Lord
shall be accomplished."
Whereupon Mary exclaimed with the Canticle of Canticles…
4
"My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoice s in God my Saviour; because He has regarded
the lowliness of Hi s handmaid; for behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed;
Because He who is mighty ha s done great things for me, and holy is Hi s name; and for generation
upon generation in His mercy, to those who fear Him;
He has shown might in Hi s arm; He has scattered the proud in the conceit of their hearts; He has
put down the mighty from their throne s and has exalted the lowly;
He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty; He has given help
to Israel, His servant, mindful of Hi s mercy…
Even as He spoke to our fathers…to Abraham and his posterity fore ver.
Nativity: Luke 2:6-7
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accompli shed that she should be
delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and
laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Let us consider in thi s mystery, how Joseph and his wife Mary, who was with child, went to
Bethlehem, the City of David, to register according to a decree sent out by the Roman Emperor,
commanding a census of the whole world. And it came to pass, while they were there, the days for
Mary to be delivered were fulfilled.
But there was no room for them in the Inn.
Therefore, they left the town, and took shelter in a stable where she brought forth her first born
Son and laid Him in a manger. This was the first Chri stma s!!
And that same night a bright star shone in the heavens, and a multitude of the Heavenly Hosts
sang: "Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth to men of goodwill."
Shepherds and Wise Men came to adore the newborn King. And all who heard, marveled at the
things told them by the shepherds.
But Mary kept in mind all these words, pondering them in her heart.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, through the same God and Lord Jesus Chri st, whom you did bear
beneath thy heart for thine eternal glory and our salvation, we beseech thee by thy maternal
goodne ss intercede with the Divine Majesty in our behalf in all our necessi ties; mercifully show
thyself acce ssible to our prayers.
Presentation: Luke 2:22-24
And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accompli shed, they
brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; (A s it i s written in the law of the LORD,
Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) And to offer a sacrifice
according to that whi ch i s said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
Let us consider in thi s mystery, how the Blessed Virgin Mary, on the day of her purification,
together with her husband, Joseph, took the Child Je sus up to the Temple in Jerusalem to present
5
Him to the Lord. They carried with them a pair of young turtle doves, an offering which the very
poorest were obliged to make.
Now, there was in Jerusalem a great prophet named Simeon. And, it had been revealed to thi s just
and devout man by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of
the Lord.
And he came by the inspiration of the Spirit into the Temple at the time when Mary and Joseph
brought in the child Jesus. Simeon took the Child in his arms and blessed God saying:
"Now You may di smi ss Your servant, O Lord, according to Thy word, in peace. Because my eyes
have seen They salvation, which You have prepared before the face of all people - a light of
revelation to the Gentiles, and a glory for Thy people Israel."
And Joseph and Mary marveled at the things spoken concerning Him. Simeon blessed them, and
said to Mary: "Behold, thi s Child i s destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and a sign that
shall be contradicted. And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that the thoughts of many hearts
may be revealed."
And when they had fulfilled all things as pre scribed by law they returned to Nazareth. And the
Child grew and became strong.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, we beseech thee, pray to thy dear Son that He will grant us the fruit and
merit of His sacred humanity, in which you did carry Him in your virginal arms to the Temple and
present Him to the Eternal Father.
Finding in the Temple: Luke 2:46-47
And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the
doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astoni shed at
his understanding and answers.
Let us consider in thi s mystery, how the Blessed Virgin Mary, when Jesus was twelve years old,
took Him to Jerusalem according to the custom of the Feast of the Passover. And after they had
fulfilled the days, when they were returning, the boy Jesus remained in Jerusalem, and His
parents did not know.
But thinking that He was in the caravan, they had come a day's journey before it occurred to them
to look for Him among their friends and acquaintances. And they sought Him for a space of three
days - And at length found Him in the Temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers.
All who were listening to Him were amazed at His answers. And when Mary and Joseph saw Him
they were astoni shed.
And Hi s mother said to Him: "Son, why have you done so to us? Thy father and I have sought
Thee sorrowing." And Je sus said to them: "Did you not know, I must be about the things of my
Father?"
He nevertheless arose and returned with His parents to Nazareth, and was obedient unto them.
And Je sus advanced in wisdom and age and grace before God and man.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, all too soon thy sufferings began when you had lost the Child Jesus for
three days. But what joy filled your heart upon finding Him in the Temple.
6
We beseech you to obtain for us the grace never to lose Jesus through mortal sin, and if we
should offend Him, that we immediately and with a contrite heart seek Him and find Him.
Sorrowful Mysteries
Agony in the Garden: Matthew 26:36-39
Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsem ane, and saith unto the di sciple s, Sit ye
here, while I go and pray yonder. And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and
began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith he unto them, My soul i s exceeding sorrowful,
even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little farther, and fell on hi s face,
and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possibl e, let thi s cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I
will, but as thou wilt.
Let us consider in thi s mystery, how on Holy Thursday, Je sus had instituted the Hol y Euchari st.
Accompanied by his di sciple s, He went to Mount Olivet, where there was a garden called
Gethsemane. And He said to them: "My soul is sad unto death. Sit you here while I go yonder to
pray."
Then falling upon His face, He prayed saying, "Fathe r, if it is possible, let this cup pa ss away from
me; yet not as I will, but as Thou wilt."
Thus Je sus prayed three times, and fell into agony and His sweat became as drops of blood
trickling down to the ground. And behold, there appeared an Angel who strengthened Him.
Then Jesus arose, and said to Hi s di sciple s: "Ari se, he is at hand who will betray Me."
Immaculate Heart of Mary, by the overwhelming dread, anguish, and grief which our Saviour
suffered in Hi s Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, we bese ech thee, obtain for us complete
submi ssion to the Will of God, and the grace to suffer whatever He will appoint.
Intercede for us that Je sus will not forsake us at that supreme moment of our last agony.
Scourging at the Pillar: Matthew 27:25-26
Then answered all the people, and said, Hi s blood be on us, and on our children. Then released he
Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
Let us consider in thi s mystery, how in the early morning Jesus was led b efore the Roman
Governor, Pontius Pilate to be tried. But Pilate knew that Jesus had been delivered by the envy of
the priests and Pharisee s, and so he said to them: "What evil hath He done? I find no cause of
death in Him. I will therefore scourge Him, and let Him go."
Jesus was then led away, stripped of Hi s garments, and tied to a pillar, where He was most
inhumanly scourged by Hi s cruel executioners.
Hi s Precious Blood streamed from His fle sh mangled by countless blows.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, Jesus suffered the inhuman punishment to atone for the sins of the
7
flesh. We beseech thee assi st us to overcome sensuality by mortification, subdue our passions,
and acquire the virtues proper for our state in life. Inspire us with a keen sorrow for our sin s.
Crowning with Thorns: Matthew 27:28-29
And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had platted a crown of
thorns, they put it upon hi s head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before
him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
Let us consider in thi s mystery, how after Jesus had been scourged, Pilate delivered Him up to be
crucified. The soldiers of the Procurator took Je sus into the Praetorium and gathered together
about Him the whole cohort. And they stripped Him of Hi s garments, and put on Him a scarlet
cloak; and fashioning a crown of thorns, they put it upon Hi s head; And a reed into His right hand;
they bent their knees before Him, mocking Him saying; "Hail, King of the Jews!" Others spat on
Him, and took the reed and struck Hi s head.
And, at last they blindfolded Him and renewed all manner of insult and injury.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, we beseech thee that the profusion of blood which fell from the crown
of thorns will penetrate all the powers of our soul s; enlighten our understanding, purify our
minds, and drive away all unchaste thoughts so that, by holine ss of de sire, we may repair the out -
rages heaped upon thy Divine Son in this mock enthronement, and Dolores shedding of blood.
Carrying the Cross: John 19:12-18
And from thenceforth Pilate sought to rel ease him: but the Jews cri ed out, saying, If thou let thi s
man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh him self a king speaketh against Caesar.
When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment
seat in a place that i s called the Pavem ent, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. And it was the
preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he sai th unto the Jews, Behold your
King! But they cri ed out, Away with him, away wi th him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I
crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. Then delivered he
him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. And he bearing
his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew
Golgotha: Where they cruci fied him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the
midst.
Let us consider in thi s mystery, how the soldiers seized Jesus, removed Hi s scarlet cloak and put
on Him, His own garments. And, He was given a heavy cross to bear. And, it was placed upon His
bleeding shoulders, and Jesus was led away to be crucified - Each step on Hi s agonizing journey
causing terrific pain throughout Hi s entire body. And, above all the din, the cries of the crazed
crowd could be heard over and over again saying; "Cruci fy Him! Cruci fy Him!!!"
Despite all the brutality and humiliation Jesus suffered, the most agonizi ng moment for Him came
when He met His blessed Mother Mary on the road to Calvary - Their eyes met briefly, and
exchanged the anguish each felt in their hearts.
Thereafter, Jesus continued to struggle beneath the weight of the heavy cross amidst the scor n
and ridicule inflicted on Him by His own people. Simon is constrained to help Jesus carry Hi s
cross.
Veronica wipes the Holy face of Jesus.
8
Jesus asks the weeping women of Jerusalem, not to weep for Him, but rather, to weep for their
children.
And, finally, they came to the place called Golgotha, the "place of skull."
Immaculate Heart of Mary, with compassion we call to mind the painful moment when thou didst
behold Jesus bearing Hi s heavy cross. We beseech thee, for the sake of thy sufferings to obtain
for us, through thy most powerful intercessi on, patience in the trials of life, and courage to carry
our cross.
Crucifixion & Death: Luke 23:45-46
And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the templ e was rent in the midst. And when Jesus had
cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus,
he gave up the ghost.
Let us consider in thi s mystery, when Jesus reached the top of Mount Calvary, He was stripped of
Hi s garments, and cruelly nailed to a cross. Then, two thieves were crucified with Him, one on His
right hand, and one on His left. And those who had gathered mocked Jesus saying: "If Thou be
the Son of God, come down from the cross! He saved others, Him self He cannot save!"
And, Je sus spoke: "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."
Then one of the thieves who was crucified with Him, blasphemed Jesus saying: "If Thou be the
Chri st, save Thyself, and us a s well." But the other thief rebuked him, and exclaimed: "We, indeed,
suffer justl y. But He has done no evil." Then turning toward Jesus, he asked; "Lord, remember me
when Thou shalt come into Thy Kingdom."
And, Je sus answered: "I say to thee, this day thou shalt be with Me in paradise."
Then Jesus looked down from the cross, a nd beheld His mother Mary with John, His beloved
disciple. And Jesus said to Hi s mother; "Woman, behold thy Son." And to John He said: "Behold
thy Mother." And from that hour, John to the Mother of Jesus to him self - As if she were his own
mother.
And when the sixth hour had come, there was a darkness over the whole land, until the ninth
hour. And at the ninth hour, Je sus cried out in a loud voice saying; "My God, My God, why hast
Thou forsaken Me?" Je sus was repeating the ancient prayer of the Psalmist.
Soon afterward, Jesus exclaimed: "I thirst".
A soldier took a sponge, soaked it in vinegar, put it on a reed and gave it to Him to drink.
After He had taken the vinegar Jesus said: "It i s consummated."
Then He again cried out in a loud voice, saying: "Father, into Thy hand I commend My spirit."
Saying these final words Jesus, the precious, obedient and merciful Lamb of God, slowly bowed
Hi s head…and died…
(A moment of silence…)
Immaculate Heart of Mary, we beseech thee for the sake of the bitter angu ish you endured at the
foot of the cross, help us to be charitable to our enemies. Graciously guide us, by thy all -powerful
9
prayers to discover the nothingness of thi s world, the greatness of Heaven, the shortne ss of time,
and the length of eternity. Assi st us, to accompli sh the work of our salvation.
Glorious Mysteries
Resurrection of Our Lord: Matthew 28:5-6
And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus,
which was crucified. He is not here: for he is ri sen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord
lay.
Let us consider in thi s Mystery, how as the morning of the third day dawned, our Lord, Jesus
Chri st, rose from the dead, and came forth from the grave in all His glory. And at the same time
there was a great earthquake.
And an angel of the Lord came down from Heaven, rolled away the stone from the sepulcher, and
sat upon it - Hi s countenance was as lightning, his garments white as snow.
And, when the guards saw the angel they were struck with te rror, and fell to the ground as if they
were dead.
At the same time, three pious women brought spice s, that they might anoint the body of Je sus.
And the angel said to them: "Do not be afraid! You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth who was
crucified. He is not here - He has ri sen - Behold the place where they laid Him! But go, tell his
disciples, and Peter that He goes before you into Galilee; there you shall see Him as He told you!"
Immaculate Heart of Mary, what joy filled thy troubled heart, when after the bitter death of thy Son,
He appeared to you on that glorious Ea ster morning - ri sen triumphantly from the grave, and came
to console thee.
Dearest Mother, we beseech thee, pray for us that we will be given the strength to resi st all
solicitations to evil, be patient in our trials, and live righteously, so that one day we too, may rise
triumphantly from the dead.
Ascension into Heaven: Luke 24:50-51
And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And it
came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
Let us consider in thi s Mystery, how on the fortieth day after the resurrection, Jesus appeared to
Hi s eleven apostle s for the last time in Jerusalem.
He ate with them, and told them to wait in Jerusalem until they would receive the Holy Spirit.
And He said unto them: "All power is given Me in Heaven and earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all
nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; Teaching
them to observe all things whatever I command you, for I am with you all the days, even to the end
of the world!"
10
Then, He sent Hi s apostle s to Mount Olivet. There He raised Hi s hands and blessed them.
And it came to pass, that, while He blessed them, He began to ascend, and was raised to Heaven.
The apostle s adored Him and looked after Jesus, until a cloud hid Him from their sight.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, how great was thy joy, when thy Divine Son, standing on the top of
Mount Olivet ascended before thee into Heaven, where He took posse ssion of the throne at the
right hand of Hi s Father.
Dearest Mother, we beseech thee to ask they Divine Son to flood our soul s with Hi s grace, and
multiply in us the gifts of the Holy Spirit, that we may daily grow in grace, and in the knowledge of
the teachings of Chri st - That after having faithfully served Him, we may one day come to thy Son
and thee in Heaven to enjoy everlasting happiness.
The Pentecost: Acts 2:3-4
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And
they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave
them utterance.
Let us consider in thi s Mystery, when the days of Penteco st were drawing to a close, the apostles,
disciples and Mary, the Mother of Jesus were again assembled in the upper room. And suddenly,
on the tenth day, there came a sound from Heaven, as if a mighty rushing wind - And it filled the
whole house where they were sitting. And, appearing to them, were parted tongues of fire, which
settled upon each of them. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in diverse
tongue s.
Now, there were staying in Jerusalem, Jews and devout men from every na tion under Heaven.
And when this sound was heard the multitude gathered, and were bewildered in mind, because
each had heard them speaking in his own language.
They were all amazed, and marveled saying: "Behold, are not all these that are speaking
Galileans? And how have we heard, each in his own language in which he was born?"
Then Peter stood forth and said: "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Chri st, for the forgivene ss of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit! For to you
is the promi se, and to all your children, and to all who are far off - To all whom the Lord our God
calls!" Many believed, and were baptized; and that same day about three thousand were received
into the Church.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, we beseech thee, obtain from the Spirit of Truth, whom Christ promi sed
to Hi s apostle s and to the world, the gift of fortitude, that we may have the courage to be diligent
in the pursuit of knowledge, and honest in its use. Ask the Holy Spirit to enlig hten our
understanding, make us prudent in our understandings, courageous in adversity, and humble in
prosperity. Let our conscience be ever upright and pure. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit, to whom be all glory forever and ever.
Assumption of Mary: Hebrews 11:5
By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had
translated him: for before his translation he had this te stimony, that he pleased God.
11
Let us consider in thi s Mystery, how the Blessed Virgin Mary, preserved by a singular privilege
from the stain of original sin, was also exempt from the common curse of sinful man, "Unto dust
thou shalt return!" God would not permit her virginal body, from which His very own Son took
human form, to return to dust.
And it was the Almighty's wi sh that her mortal body be assumed into Heaven to be re -united with
her most pure soul amid the highest demonstrations of jubilee, and triumph.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, we beseech thee, preserve our world from civil strife, and defend all
shore s from hostile foes.
Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, hear our prayers, and encompass with a rampart of faith, all the
inhabitants of the earth.
Our Lady of Fatima, we beg thee, bestow upon thi s trouble d world, the great promise of peace!
Coronation of Mary: Revelation 12:1
And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under
her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars...
Let us consider in thi s Mystery, how the glorious Virgin Mary, upon entering the Kingdom of
Heaven, was greeted by her Divine Son - who placed her on the Heavenly throne beside that of the
Most Holy Trinity.
Exalted above all the choirs of angels, He crowned her before the court of Heaven with a diadem
of eternal glory.
And at the same time, Mary, the Mother of Jesus, became the great Mediatrix of Graces, the lover
of mankind, and the Refuge of Sinners.
Queen of Heaven, through your Holy Rosa ry, we dedicate ourselves to your Imma culate Heart -
Hear our petitions now, and at the hour of our death... Amen.
