Welcome back to all returning teachers and welcome to all teachers new to teaching or new to Edmonton
For teachers on temporary contracts or other contracts that have a specific end date:
You have 60 calendar days after the date that your contract ends to submit expenses to ASEBP
(Extended Health Care, Dental and Vision and HSA). The expense must be incurred before your
Claim forms can be downloaded from: http://www.asebp.ab.ca/forms.html.
The Economic Policy Committee would like to remind all teachers that participation in
School Zone is strictly voluntary ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS. That means that if
your school has decided to implement School Zone, you are not obligated to use it
to post marks, lessons, or homework, unless you choose to, even if the rest of your
staff have decided that they want to. Teachers with questions or concerns regarding
School Zone are asked to contact Deb Davidson or Patrick Johner at the Local Office
In addition, attendance at Open Houses which run beyond regular school hours is
also strictly voluntary.
Activities occurring on weekends are also strictly voluntary and cannot be assigned.
Each school has a copy of the collective agreement in the yellow School Handbook and each teacher should
have received the small green personal version. A complete copy of the collective agreement can also be
found by clicking on the collective agreement link on the Local’s website local37.teachers.ab.ca or by going
to www.teachers.ab.ca and following the Collective Bargaining/Collective Agreements/Edmonton Public
School District No.7 links. See the addendum on the back for current grids. The Alberta Average Weekly
Wage index for 2008 will not be available until the end of April.
EPC is asking that you complete a very brief survey regarding work issue. The survey will be
available at the Local 37 booth at GETCA February 26 & 27, 2009 and your response would be greatly
Effective September 1, 2008, salaries and allowances and substitute teacher daily rates of pay increased by
4.53%. Below are the grids and allowances that came into effect on September 1, 2008.

7. Substitute Teachers
7.1 The rate of pay for Substitute Teachers shall be, inclusive of general holiday and vacation pay, as

The formula to be used in computing the principal’s allowance for each school will be as follows:

All other allowances have increased by the same percentage (4.53%).
