Activity 1 − Cartesian Coordinates

Objective
When you have completed this activity, you will have the knowledge and skills to
complete a line drawing using Cartesian coordinates.

You will be able to:

• define absolute and relative coordinates.
• locate points using Cartesian coordinates.

Procedure: Drawing with Cartesian Coordinates

Obtain a piece of graph paper from your instructor. Hold the paper lengthwise and
draw a line for the X axis along the bottom edge of the grid. Draw the Y axis along
the left edge of the grid. Label the origin. Number the X axis from 0 to 35. Number
the Y axis from 0 to 15

You will now draw four lines on one graph. Your lines should form a picture of an
object. Connect the points indicated by the following coordinates, in the order given:

First Line

         Point # Coordinates

         #1 13, 9

         #2 @2,0

         #3 @0,2

         #4 @-2, -2
