BIOGRAPHY – TIM FRAIN, Director IPR, Regulatory Affairs
Tim Frain is Director of IPR, Regulatory Affairs at Nokia.
Tim graduated in physics from
Imperial College, London University. He is a British and European Patent Attorney, with almost 30 years experience of intellectual property in the corporate environment. He has been at Nokia for 18 years, where he helped establish the patent department for the mobile phone business unit.
Tim has wide practical experience of intellectual property in business, especially patents, including licensing, litigation, and patent management generally. Today he is involved in policy matters concerning intellectual property and the changing legal environment. Tim has a broad industry perspective, being actively involved in trade associations and professional organisations with intellectual property interest groups, both in the UK and at EU level.
Tim is Nokia’s representative on the specially-convened ad hoc group of the General Assembly of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) which, over the last year, has been reviewing the IPR regime as it applies to standards-related patents in ETSI.
