News Release Contact: Tim Mohl 361-888-5591 Ext. 125 For Immediate Release Horton Automatics Receives Sanwa Shutter Corporation 2001 SVA Award (August 5, 2002) Robert J McGovern, President of Corpus Christi based Horton Automatics, announced today that their Parent Corporation, Sanwa Shutter of Japan has recognized Horton Automatics, as the winner of the 2001 SVA Award, given annually to the business unit that most improved shareholder value in 2001. The award was announced at a recent Board Meeting in Japan by Mr. Takayama, Chairman of the SANWA SHUTTER CORPORATION to Mr. Robert McGovern, President of Horton Automatics and to Mr. Dennis Stone CEO of Overhead Door Corporation. Mr. Takayama commended Horton Automatics for improving shareholder value despite a difficult 2001 economy. “Horton demonstrated the ability to maintain focus despite the shock to the American people and the US economy due to the horrific events of 9/11. Their strong commitment to implementing cost reductions and maintaining sales programs was the major reason that Horton achieved our most important award”. He also noted it was the first time a U.S. business unit has won the award. Mr. McGovern commented that “this award is the result of significant teamwork on the part of all of our employees”. The award recognizes the outstanding efforts of our employees and the individual sacrifice that we asked of them in 2001, in order to improve in a very difficult year. I feel particularly honored to receive the award on behalf of all of our employees; given that the award is not based on a simple measure of profitability, but a comprehensive calculation of several factors that determines shareholder value. Actually, we were unable to fully meet our th financial goals given the collapse of the economy in the 4 quarter, but we were still able to improve shareholder value with strong performance in other areas. This award is also accompanied with a monetary bonus. We have decided to share the bonus equally among all our employees of record in 2001. It really is not a lot of money after dividing it among all our employees, but we feel strongly that the recognition should be equally shared. More important than the financial award is the recognition from our Board, that their investment in Horton Automatics is proving to be “good business”. We have to compete every day for funds for our business improvement plans with Sanwa’s other business units. This award establishes credibility for continuing their investment in Horton Automatics. 2002 continues to be a challenge given a sluggish economy. We are still operating under certain contingency plans, but we are continuing to invest in the business despite the overall market condition. These investments are critical to improve our business processes to offset the sharp rise in the cost to operate our business, especially escalating insurance costs at our Corpus Christi location. Sanwa Shutter is a global manufacturer and distributor of commercial and residential building supplies. They acquired OHD Corporation in 1996. The Dallas based OHD is comprised of Overhead Door, Genie, TODCO, McGuire and Horton Automatics.
