"Professional Portfolio Gregory Herron"
Professional Portfolio Gregory Herron Cover letter & Resume • It is a pleasure to introduce myself as a certified secondary mathematics teacher with nine years teaching experience. I am a native English speaker, and my teaching career has given me varied opportunities to develop professionally, personally, and culturally. I have taught most recently in Hong Kong since August 2006. • While teaching at the high school level, I taught the full range of mathematics courses, ICT, and served as high school basketball coach. EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom) was also an area that was put under my management. Upon arriving in Hong Kong, I served as classroom teacher at Wellborn International Play School and Tsung Tsin Mission Graceful Kindergarten amongst K1 to K3 students. Most recently, I have offered private tutoring services to international students and working professionals while I complete my full-time graduate studies in Education. • My graduate studies have allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of human development and current methodology for classroom instruction. This program has allowed me to become a certified secondary teacher in the United States. I look forward to discussing how my background and career goals match the teaching opportunity available at your school. It is my aim to make each lesson interactive and directly related to industry and life outside school. My delivery style is child-centered and is supportive of different learning styles. It is my plan to share parts of my own life experience to the students. This shows students that what is being handed down is not just impersonal data but rather the "nuggets of discovery” purified by time. I will be pro-active by also addressing underlying needs and attitudes of the students. Through learning team projects, I will become better acquainted personally with each student. In this way it will be much easier to establish classroom procedure. Sample Lesson Plan – Quadratic Equations (Algebra II) Student Work Sample – Linear Functions (Algebra II)
