FIRE AND EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURES & POLICY
Fire Warning is the continuous ringing of the fire alarm bell. When the fire bell is
heard staff should carry out the following procedures:
1. Instruct the class to stop what they are doing.
2. Tell the class to stand. Leave all bags and equipment in class.
3. Instruct the class to leave the room in an orderly manner and lead the
class to the appropriate assembly point (see below)
4. Collect the class register (if it is with you – see Registration for times – if
not then collect it from the bursar when outside) and check that the
classroom is empty before closing both doors.
5. Teaching Assistants will check the corridor and toilets nearest to the class
in which they are working and ensure that the door is closed. The
Nursery teaching assistant will ring the Nursery fire alarm bell.
6. The headteacher will also check all toilets and classrooms before joining
pupils and staff for roll call on the playgrounds.
7. Except in the case of a small localized outbreak NO ATTEMPT should be
made to fight the fire.
8. Call the register and await the arrival of the Headteacher. Inform him of
any missing pupils.
9. Stay with your class until further instructions.
10. Bursar will check signing in and out book to see if we have any visitors in
school.
11. If necessary the headteacher will authorize the summoning of the Fire and
Rescue Service.
12. Fire drills take place at least once a term and are recorded.
