REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT:

Mr. Anthony Podczasy, Superintendent, stated the month of October brings
shorter days, colder temperatures, and, of course, at the end of the month,
Halloween. In celebration of Halloween, the Junior/Senior High School Student
Council, Key Club and Leo Club, will be sponsoring a “Safe Night Out” for the
little ones on Thursday, October 30th, from 6:00-8:00 P.M., in the cafeteria. Face
painting, trick or treating, and other surprises will be provided by the costumed
members of these clubs. The Senior High Honor Society will be collecting used
eyeglasses during the month of October. The glasses can be dropped off at
room B-03 or given to any Senior High member. There will be an American Red
Cross Blood Drive on October 14th at the Junior/Senior High School gymnasium.
The Elementary Halloween Parades will be held on Friday, October 31st.
Tomorrow is a full-day In-Service for the teachers and on Monday, schools will
be closed, in observance of Columbus Day. Homecoming was held the week of
September 29th with the Homecoming Parade, Friday, October 3rd,
followed by the football game against Dallas. At that game, the elementary
students were our special guests and one lucky student from each of our
elementary schools received a football signed by the members of the Hanover
Area Football Team.
                                                               OCTOBER 9, 2008

Mr. Podczasy introduced Mr. Daniel Malloy, Assistant Secondary Principal, to
make the student presentation.

Mr. Malloy said it was a great pleasure again this year to introduce the students
who have been selected as “Students of the Month”. And it is a very special
honor to be chosen as September’s “Student of the Month”, the first student
recognized for the new school year 2008-2009. Academically, this student
ranks top of her class, she is in the Scholars Program, and has been a member
of the National Honor Society for the last four years. She also serves as
President of the Student Council and was chosen as the 2008 Homecoming
Queen. As a member of the Swim Team, she won twelve district medals. She
lights up the room with her beautiful smile and terrific personality. I would like
to introduce the “Student of the Month” for September, Kathryn Gavlick.

Kathryn Gavlick then gave a brief synopsis of her many academic and athletic
accomplishments while attending the Hanover Area School District. She
remembers the first day she came into the Jr./Sr. High School, during 7th Grade
Orientation, she was very intimidated by the Principal and Football coach, Mr.
David Fisher. She went on to say the school lunches at Hanover Area are the
best. She gave a special thank you to Mr. Anthony Podczasy for attending all
the tennis matches and cheerleading for the Hanover Area girls. She also
thanked Dr. Terry Schnee for teaching her the basics of swimming, beginning
when she was in 3rd grade, which led to her accomplishment of breaking four
varsity records. Kathryn also thanked her guidance counselors, Ms. Meier and
Mr. Biscontini; English Teacher, Ms. Guesto; Student Council Advisor, Mr.
Dubinski; and her Art Teacher, Ms. Simasek for all of their help throughout her
years at Hanover. She also thanked her parents, her brother, her grandparents,
her Godmother, Beth Connelly; and her best friend Amber. Kathryn’s future
plans include attending Widener College to major in nursing.

Mr. Richard Gavlick, Representative of the Leo Club and Student Council,
presented Kathryn Gavlick with tokens of appreciation for being chosen as
“Student of the Month” for September. Mr. Gavlick thanked her for serving
as President of the Student Council. He also wished her success in her future
plans.

Mr. President, that concludes the Superintendent’s Report.

It was moved by Peter Halesey, seconded by Anthony Spinozza: To accept the
Report of the Superintendent.
