Honors Biology: The Living Environment 2007-2008
Course Requirements
Dr. Truglio
The Living Environment is a full year course emphasizing the molecular, anatomical and ecological aspects
of biology, culminating in a New York State Regents examination. This course has been designed for
students who wish to pursue a scientific career or students who desire an intellectual challenge. The
successful completion of this course requires HARD WORK.
1. This sheet will be signed by your parent or guardian and attached to the first page of your notebook for
this class.
2. Each day you are expected to be on time and in your seat with the appropriate materials in hand (see
main syllabus).
3. All homework assignments will be neatly written (NOT TYPED) on notebook composition paper (not
torn out of a notebook). The appearance and quality of your work is a direct reflection on your
seriousness and desire to succeed. If the assignment is more than one page, it must be stapled
together and your name written on EVERY page.
4. Your full name (given and family) must appear on each page of lab work and homework submitted.
Work lacking this information will not be given credit.
5. Labs will be submitted for grading, returned to the student. for review, and again returned to the teacher
for safe storage. Labs are available at any time for review by the student. This will ensure that every student
has completed the 1200 minutes of lab time required to take the Regents at years end.
6. All labs in a given quarter are required to be completed one week before the end of that marking period.
Labs turned in late will not be given credit toward the quarter, but will be counted toward the Regents
requirement. If required labs are not completed at the end of each quarter, the student will receive an
incomplete for that quarter. There are four mandatory state labs that every living environment student in
New York must complete. Lack of completion of any of the four state required labs will exclude the
student from taking the Regents exam.
7. Homework assignments must be turned in within the week in which they were assigned. Credit will NOT
be given after this deadline. Once homework assignments are late, their usefulness and validity are lost.
8. Phone calls and/or letters will be sent out for the following:
a. Missed exams
b. Missed assignments (labs and or homework)
c. Unprepared for class
d. Excessive lateness or absence
e. Exam/quiz grades below 80
f. An Interim grade below 85.
g. Disruptive behavior in class
9. This form shall be signed by your parent or guardian to make certain that both you and the people
responsible for you understand what we expect from your participation during the school year. Let’s have a
fun, fulfilling, and rewarding year!
