UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO ENGINEERING SOCIETY B MEETING MINUTES – MEETING #3 – SPRING 2008 DATE: June 4, 2008 CHAIRS: Amanda Hoff (President) MINUTES: Adli Nureddin 1 – WELCOME / CALL TO ORDER / QUORUM  #classes in attendance: 27 Quorum met.  Approval of the minutes  Moved by: President  Seconded by: VP Internal  In Favor: 27  Opposed: 0  Abstained: 0  Motion Passes 2 – APPROVAL OF ENGENDA o TIME: 5:30PM – 7:15PM SPEAKER: Pete Mottola Approved 3 – EXECUTIVE REPORTS 3.1 – President (Amanda Hoff – bsoc_prez@engmail.uwaterloo.ca)  Meeting with the Dean o Looking for ideas to increase enrolment percentages of women in engineering o Looking for feedback on the Engineering environment (especially with regards to female enrolment) o Looking for feedback about ways to improve student life o The Vision 2010 Progress Update will be on the Engineering homepage by the end of the week 3.2 – VP-External (Erica Waugh – bsoc_vpext@engmail.uwaterloo.ca)  Pancake breakfast last week went well – stay tuned for information about upcoming charity events  Women in Engineering is holding a movie night in POETS (June 12)  Presented her role as VP External (see more details coming out about upcoming election) 3.3 – VP-Internal (Cat Hay– bsoc_vpint@engmail.uwaterloo.ca)  Family photo from Fall 2007 term – will be available on the EngSoc office door (please check to see if we have your name spelled correctly)  Upcoming events o World Environment Day (tomorrow) o Skydiving this weekend o 2009 Bocce ball tournament o Coffee house after next meeting (June 25) o Tickets for semi formal are on sale now in the EngSoc office 3.4 – VP-Education (Patrick Gillis – bsoc_vpedu@engmail.uwaterloo.ca)  Recap of PDENG Review – changes will start to be seen by Winter 2010  President of University has been “reelected” until 2011 3.5 – Website proposal (Tyler Gale – asoc_prez@engmail.uwaterloo.ca)      Proposal to hire a student (paid part time) to develop website for society Highlights: online novelties store, society web space Objective: useful web space Importance: increase use, functionality, updates Reasoning: it is difficult for individual volunteers to make much progress and it is a project much more efficiently done by one volunteer than a group. 3.6 – VP-Finance (Chris Jamieson – bsoc_vpfin@engmail.uwaterloo.ca)  No news  Stay tuned for budget motion and business plan update in new business 3.7 – WEEF (Alex James – weef@engmail.uwaterloo.ca)  WEEF proposals are now open  More information available on website 4 – OLD BUSINESS 4.1 Budget Approval – Chris Jamieson (bsoc_vpfin@engmail.uwaterloo.ca)  See Appendix B  Budget does not include C&D or Novelties because they run on a year-end basis and our budget is on a term-basis. They are also run reactively based on the number of sales. BIFRT: The Engineering Society "B" Executive, on the behalf of the Engineering Society Council, request the Faculty of Engineering to investigate ways to expand and better the services currently being offered by Engineering Counseling Services to the faculty's students.
