November 2008 Message Another Resolution Like many of you, I find that when I challenge myself to pursue a new idea, change a habit or resolve to become better at something, I can inevitably fail. "Resolve to make no resolutions" is what someone might say to avoid these types of let downs. I recently resolved to ride my bike from my house to City Hall on Fridays. The experience has been great. When I bike to work I feel great physically. It is mentally uplifting, and the ride has provided me with an awesome energy boost to start my day. Unfortunately, wet weather, my meeting schedule and a bad knee have recently thwarted my efforts to bike to work on every Friday. I have not given up on this idea, but I am somewhat disappointed about how this resolution has worked out so far. My latest resolution is to communicate to community members in a forum once a month on the City's website. Like many of my ideas, this is not a new one. In fact, I got this idea from fellow Albany City Manager Wes Hare who has established a weekly blog on the City of Albany website. Wes is more prolific with his writing than I - my plan is to provide only a monthly message. The issues I will write about will tend to be random and generally about the people, places and things that make Roseburg a great community in which to live and work. I hope you find them useful, and I encourage your responses. The following are recent presentations City Staff and I shared at the August and October Roseburg Area Chamber of Commerce quarterly government affairs breakfast on the status of Roseburg Regional Airport and Urban Growth Boundary issues. Click on the links on the City Manager Message Page to see the full presentations. Sincerely,
