PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. (PGE) is a power company engaged in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in Poland. The company and its subsidiaries supply electricity to around five million households, companies and institutions in the eastern, northeast and southeast regions of Poland. The company has more than 40 power plants and combined heat and power plants with combined installed capacity of over 12,400 MW. In addition, the company also has two large lignite mines including a largest open-cast lignite mine in Poland. In 2009, the company generated 53.8 TWh of electricity and sold 30 TWh of electricity. The company mined 43.1 million tons of lignite in 2009.
