FREE WORKSHOPS FOR VARIETY MEMBERS
March 6, 1:30-3:30 p.m. Manipulating the environment Location: Conference Room This workshop will focus on identifying issues in the environment that may contribute to problematic behaviours and will provide tips on how to manipulate the environment to benefit the learning outcome and decrease behaviours within limited time (1 hour classes). These tips and resources will be useful to all learners however there will be a slight focus on those with an ASD. Presenter: Doug McMahon March 13, 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sign Language, Conversational Skills Location: Conference Room This workshop is a fun, interactive seminar that provides an introduction to basic sign language. (If there are any specific signs that you would like to learn, please let Robyn know before the workshop and we will make sure your request is addressed at the workshop.) Presenter: Lisa Gould March 27, 1:30-3:30 p.m. Lifts and Transfers Location: Conference Room This workshop will focus on teaching you proper technique and precautions for lifting and transferring others. The National Level athletes attended the Provincial Championships at the Olympium from February 13-15 and the Provincial Level athletes attended Regional Championships at U of T Mississauga from February 20-22. Thank you to all of the hardworking athletes and their parents for their ongoing commitment to the program and to the success of the club. March Break Camp March 16-20 Variety Village March Break Camp is just around the corner. March Break Camp runs March 16 - 20. Enrolled campers experience the Village’s many unique games, sports and adapted activities – plus, they get to swim everyday! There are also outdoor activities to be enjoyed (weather permitting). March 7 With Glowing Hearts – From Play to Podium (see above) 10th Annual Achilles St. Patrick’s Day 5k Run/Walk March 20 Support the Variety Village staff as they participate in the 10th Annual Achilles St. Patrick’s Day 5k Run/Walk on Friday, March 20. All proceeds raised by the team will be donated to Variety Village. If you would like to make a donation to the team and help them reach their fundraising goal, please contact Ben Scholes at 416.699.7167 x 254. March 21 LINKS Bowl-a-thon O’Connor Bowl will host a fun-filled third party event organized by one of Variety Village’s co-op students. The evening will include a silent auction, plenty of snacks and friendly competition. All proceeds will be donated to the LINKS program. March 28 Ontario Senior Weightlifting Championships Competition begins at 9:30 a.m. in the fieldhouse at Variety Village. April 25 Variety Village Members’ Open House & Spring Dance Visit Variety’s Open house during regular business hours on April 25. After the open house, all members and non-members are formally invited to the Variety Village Spring Dance! The Spring Dance begins at 7 p.m. in the Variety fieldhouse and the D.J. heads home to bed at 1 a.m.! We can’t say much for Spring Fever but how about Dance Fever? Shake your groove thing at the Spring Dance for only $10 per ticket! Tickets are available for purchase at the front desk.
APRIL KDD CAMP
April 3, KDD Registration deadline: March 27 This school year as teachers take the time to do some professional development kids can do the same. Variety Village is now providing day camps for kids during the days they are not in school. For more information call Ben Scholes at 416.367.2828 x 254.
