Position Title
Peer Facilitator, Teens Educating and Confronting Homophobia (T.E.A.C.H.) Program.

Agency Description
Planned Parenthood Toronto is a fully accredited community health centre that provides primary
health clinical services to youth 13 to 29 years as well as education, outreach, training and
research for Toronto’s diverse communities including youth and women.

Program Description
The Teens Educating and Confronting Homophobia (T.E.A.C.H.) program of Planned
Parenthood Toronto uses an anti-oppression approach to deliver anti-homophobia peer
education workshops in high schools, group homes and community settings across the City of
Toronto. Emphasizing skills building and partnership, T.E.A.C.H. trains youth from diverse
backgrounds who are lesbian, gay bi, trans, queer and straight allies to become Peer
Facilitators and lead anti-homophobia workshops that challenge the myths and attitudes that
lead to homophobia and discrimination.

Eligibility
T.E.A.C.H. accepts applications from youth ages 16-23 years.

Commitment
T.E.A.C.H. requires that volunteers commit to a one year volunteer cycle, including attendance
an initial eight week long training on Thursday evenings, ongoing biweekly meetings and a
minimum of twice monthly workshop facilitation.

Training
Our training starts in the fall. An initial eight week training taking place on Thursday evenings
provides our volunteers with skills such as leadership, public speaking, anti-oppression, story
telling, conflict resolution, and facilitation. After completing the training Peer Facilitators are
expected to attend our biweekly meetings every other Thursday between 6:30pm to 8:30pm to
upgrade and enhance the knowledge and skills they acquired during the training.
