Thinkfinity www.thinkfinity.com (formerly marcopolo education)
is a free website designed for teachers to find lesson plans and activities. A teacher can search by grade level, readability, subject area, and by resource type.
Sharepoint is a web portal system that allows teachers to
create individual websites where they can download and manage documents, pictures, videos and more without relying on webmaster. Teachers are empowered to create and modify anytime and anywhere there is internet access. It is a free service which allows for data to be stored at another location, rather than using our network servers. Many schools in the district are using this resource and appear to be having success.
Interwrite software is the instructional software installed with
the interactive boards and pads. All teachers have been trained in the software, but may need a remediated or advanced opportunity to use all of the features available.
See II Software is the software installed on teacher
workstations that allows them to save images used with the document camera. It also allows teachers to use the document camera and annotate (draw) on the image.
Nettrekker (www.school.nettrekker.com/frontdoor ) is a
student friendly search engine similar to google, for use at home or school. It is a safe site paid for by the district which eliminates useless or dangerous sites that may be found if a student uses google. Students can search sites by subject or grade levels that are readily pertinent to information they are searching. Searches are also attached to academic standards. If this site is not utilized; funding may be lost for this project.
Photo Story 3 is an extremely easy photo slide show that allows
for music to be played in the background. This is a free program already installed on teacher and student workstations.
Windows Movie Maker is a program currently installed on all
machines that allow for videos to be edited and created.
Turning Point is a program that utilizes student response
cards. Teachers create slide shows using Powerpoint that allow students to respond. Data can be recorded and used for grading.
United Streaming (http://streaming.discoveryeducation.com/)
is an excellent video collection website. Videos and video segments can be downloaded on practically any subject.
Math Whizz is an elementary math program that allows teachers
to use the software for group instruction or allow students to practice skills on their own in a lab setting using fun images and characters. There is a web-based component that allows for students to grow while using the internet. broadcast at certain times and then are made available as an archive for anytime viewing.
Webinars are seminars available on line. Webinars are typically
ISafe (www.isafe.org) is a web based internet safety program
available to our district. Several teachers have been trained to teach this program. It will need teachers to be trained before teaching the programs. Perhaps the best feature is the student mentor option that allows high school students to train younger students.
NetSmartz (www.netsmartz.org) is another internet safety
program that focuses primarily on elementary students. It is sponsored by the Center for Exploited and Missing Children.
