Aimee Janusz EDIT 6360: Pre-Notetaking Sheet Topic: Pre-K Programs Essential Question: Which Georgia Pre-K program/facility should my daughter attend? What I Know about My Topic Types of Pre-K Programs, and my pre-conceptions: - Church: My daughter’s currently in a church preschool now, however the PreK hours are limiting (only 3.5 hours/day for 4-5 days). - Montessori: I think these programs tend to be really expensive and may be too much for our budget. - GA Pre-K: I’ve seen TV commercials for this program, funded by the GA lottery. What we need at a minimum: - Cost: Less is better of course, but I will need to see if there are benefits of Church & Montessori programs over GA Pre-K. - Location: Needs to be within 5 miles from home and on my husband’s commute to work. - Hours: Need at least 5 hours/day, 5 days/week of school. From Reading without Notetaking, I decided: - A church pre-school program will not work for us because they offer such limited hours, about 3-3.5 hours/day. - Montessori programs are out of our budget, and its value does not outweigh the monetary costs. - Having ruled out these options, I will focus my search on Georgia Pre-K programs only. What I Don’t Know about My Topic - What ratings did the facility receive (GA school report cards, GA licensing reports, etc.)? How well does each facility rate on implementing the GA Pre-K curriculum? - Is it in a good location (nearby, convenient, safe, etc.)? - What hours are available for my options? - Are there any after-school options or extra-curricular activities offered? - Do I provide a lunch or is it provided? If provided, are the options appropriate and what are the fees? - What do the facilities look like (appropriate equipment, age, security, cleanliness)? - What are the staff’s qualifications? Will my daughter get enough attention (teacher-student ratio; amount of students)? Do the students look engaged and happy? What is the demographic? What I Want to Know about My Topic Which Georgia Pre-K program/facility should my daughter attend, comparing the following criteria:  Curriculum Taught  Cost & Fees  Location  Hours of Program  Assessment (Public Reports, Reviews)  Extra-Curricular Activities  Food Options  Facility (Equipment, Age, Security, Cleanliness)  People (Staff, TeacherStudent Ratio, # Total Students, Demographic of Students)
