                     EVALUATION OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

                              3U /4U SCIENCE COURSES

Assessment and evaluation in the Science department has been developed following
the principles outlined in the Student Agenda on pages 12 to 13. Please read these
pages for further description of the expectations for students.

Earl of March Science classes provide a variety of rich tasks and activities that enhance
student learning. Regular and punctual attendance, along with the timely submission
and completion of tasks ensures optimal student success.

In the event that a student experiences difficulty (academic, attendance, behavioural…)
a number of support services are available. Staff can be contacted via email (see the
staff directory on www.earlofmarch.com) or voicemail (613.592.3361)


As per Ministry and Board policy, the final evaluation for 3U and 4U science courses will
be based on:

             Term Work                          70%
             Summative Evaluation               30%



Term Work

25%          Knowledge and Understanding
             (quizzes, tests, assignments)

25%          Thinking
             (tests, assignments, tasks)

10%          Communication
             (lab reports, projects, tests)

10%          Application
             (term research project)

Summative Evaluation

15%          Performance Task
             (lab exam, problem-based task, journal)

15%          Examination
             (written during exam period covering material from entire semester)
