Course description
Audience: Report Authors

Overview: Students will learn to use Report Studio to build more advanced reports
against multidimensional data sources. The class starts with building a basic report and
reviewing grouping, sorting, headers, filtering, and prompts. Then, more advanced
Report Studio MDX functions features are covered, including MUN, sets, relative time
functions, slicers, advanced filters using MDX functions, prompts, and calculations. We
also create drill through reports and have hands on labs on advanced drill up and drill
down capabilities.


Prerequisites: Cognos 8 Introduction and Report Studio Multidimensional Introduction
or equivalent knowledge.


Hardware and Software: Pentium class PC, 256 MB RAM, 1024x768 screen
resolution. Microsoft Windows; Internet Explorer 5.5 (SP2) or higher; ActiveX, javascript
enabled; Microsoft Excel; Adobe Acrobat 5.0 or higher. Students must have access to a
Cognos 8 server with training packages; each student must have individual logons to
Cognos Connection.

• Use Pre-defined filters, create AND / OR filters, summary filters, use MDX functions to
create filters
• Create Slicers
• Build multi-select prompts, cascading prompts, create a dynamically generated prompt
• Work with prompt pages
• Understanding Hierarchies and using Relative Time MDX functions, advancedMDX
functions to create calculations
• Advanced formatting: classes and styles and conditional formatting
• Advanced Report writing using Drill Through, Advanced Drill Up and Drill Down, Binding
