Background information
  è Who are we?
Rock The Square is a non-profit event organized for the first time in 2008 by The Rock
Generation of Edmonton Society www.therockgeneration.com . The event drew
attention of the local media and a crowd of people to the square. CFRN presented video
interviews and performance during TV newscast as well as interviews in their radio show
that same evening. Because of its success and huge number of people that listened to
that non-advertised concert, we have decided to make it bigger and better in 2009 and
      2010.

  è History
The Rock Generation has provided free guitar lessons and band opportunities to
anybody willing to participate since 2005. The students range in ages from 8 to 40.
Lessons have always been free – no strings attached. The curriculum included
equipment selection and maintenance in addition to playing it. Over 50 students have
attended the lessons, and performed at various venues throughout the city. Many have
continued their musical journey, creating and joining other bands.

Currently, Baturyn Community League www.baturyn.ca is the continuation of what The
Rock Generation started at St. Basil Elementary and Junior High.

  è Why?
Because there is more to life than just school and work. Managing the bands and
organizing gigs and events gives us “a sense of purpose”.

  è Goal
Our goal is to provide a chance to perform for local artists.

  è Achievements
Numerous events and performances in the last 4 years.
Band’s recognition by local media in TV appearances, and newspaper articles.
