 This form documents mastery of the required competencies. It must be completed by the Building Level Administrator and Peer
 Teacher for Participating Teachers in Category A only. Participating Teacher and BLA will retain a copy of this form.

 Directions
 To document the mastery of a competency, the Building Level Administrator or Peer Teacher must initial and
 date the appropriate line and record the data source that was used. (Data source codes are listed at the
 bottom of this page.) If the competency is not initialed and the date is not entered, it is assumed that the
 competency is not completed.

 GENERIC TEACHING COMPETENCIES

3.     Arranges and manages the physical environment to facilitate instruction and ensure
       student safety.
4.     Recognizes overt signs of severe emotional distress in students and demonstrates
       awareness of appropriate intervention and referral procedures.
5.     Recognizes signs of alcoho l and drug abuse in students and demo nstrates
       awareness of appropriate intervention and referral procedures.
6.     Recognizes the overt physical and behavioral indicators of child abuse and neglect and
       knows the rights and responsibilities regarding reporting and how to interact
       appropriately with a child after a report has been made.
7.     Formulates a standard for student behavior in the classroom.


8.     Deals with misco nduct, interruptio ns, intrusio ns, and digressions in ways that
       promote instructio nal mo mentum.
9.     Determines the entry level knowledge and/or skills of students for a given set of
       instructional objectives using diagnostic tests, teacher observation and student
       records.
10.    Identifies long-range goals for a given subject area.


11.    Constructs and sequences related short-range objectives for a given subject area.


12.    S elects, adapts, and/o r develo ps instructio nal materials for a given set of
       instructional objectives and student learning needs.
13.    Selects/develo ps and sequences learning activities that are appro priate to
       instructional objectives and student needs.
14.    Uses class time efficiently.


15.    Communicates effectively using verbal and non-verbal skills


16.    Creates and maintains academic focus by using verbal, not -verbal, and/or visual
       mo tivatio nal devices.

26.   Utilizes an effective system for maintaining records of student and class
      progress.

27.   Uses computers in education.

28.   Identifies and comprehends the codes and standards of professional ethics,
      performance, and practices including the grounds for disciplinary action and
      procedures for resolving complaints, including the appeal process.
29.   Recognizes and demonstrates an awareness of the educational needs of students
      having limited proficiency in English and employs appropriate teaching
      strategies.
