The fee is only assessed in the Fall semester for health and dental coverage for 12 months beginning September 1. The Plan and the $194.50 fee are mandatory, but students can opt out of the health and/or dental coverage until September 29, 2008 if they provide proof that they already have health and/or dental coverage. Students first beginning classes in the Winter semester can opt into the Plan in January, 2009. Full Plan details are available on URSU’s web site at http://www.ursu.uregina.ca. * Books: In general, if the student is following a program with historical orientation (Art History, History of Film & Video, etc.) book costs will be higher - about $1000.00 per year. If the program is more practical than historical, book costs will be lower - about $850.00 per year, and supplies costs (see other costs) will be higher. ** Other Costs - as listed below: Music Majors must spend about $200.00 per year for music for their lessons and about $100-$150 per year for maintenance of instruments (except voice and piano). Graduate students in Conducting have to buy scores ($200.00/year). Music composition majors spend about $250.00-$450.00 for music software. When using professional accompanists for 3rd and 4th year recitals & rehearsals, cost range from $300.00 - $500.00; juries range from $60.00 $100.00. Film & Video Majors incur materials fees from $100.00 to $175.00 per production course. In addition, 3rd and 4th year students pay a minimum of $500 or more per film production course for materials used in class. Senior students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program traditionally register for one course less than a full load (12 credit hours/semester) due to the heavy time commitment to film production courses. Visual Arts Majors: While some materials are supplied, art-making materials such as paint, canvas, clay, sculpture, other media, etc., must be supplied by the students, and range from $50.00 to $250.00 per course. Senior students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program traditionally register for one course less than a full course load (12 credit hours/semester) due to the heavy time commitment to studio courses.
