The 5th ‘Baltic Rites Of Spring’ Festival 2 p.m. March 28 • Central Library
Celebrate the passage of the seasons with traditional Baltic dancers and singers. Enjoy the lively, exuberant Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian dance bands, dressed in lavish costumes stole everyone’s heart. This year the audience will have a chance to join the band on stage and learn a lively Baltic folk dance. This program is free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Basic Computer Skills: The mouse and keyboard are the two most basic tools of a computer. You need be comfortable using these in order to start learning other computer skills. In these classes you will practice using the mouse and keyboard. Word Processing Skills: To use the Internet, write emails, and use most computer programs you need to be able to enter, change, move, and delete text. In this series of classes, you will learn how to create a document and then make changes to what you have written. We recommend you take both classes. Internet Skills: The Internet is an exciting resource that you can use to search for jobs, find health information, read news from around the world, and even buy things. This series of classes teaches you about the Internet and gets you started surfing the web. E-mail Skills: E-mail is a free and easy way to communicate with friends and family. Often you need an email address to apply for jobs. In E-mail 1, you will receive a free email account and you will learn how to use it. In E-mail 2, you will learn about helpful email features including how to send your resume and save friends and family’s e-mail addresses.

Vida de Pi de Yann Martel Fecha: 14 de marzo de 2009. Hora: 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Lugar: Biblioteca Central, 1000 Fourth Ave. Primer Piso, Sala de Conferencia LEW (#165) Date: March 14 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave. Level 1, LEW Conference Room (#165) Pi Pattel es un joven que vive en la India. Su padre es el propietario y encargado del zoológico de su ciudad, pero deciden emigrar a Canadá y procurarse una vida mejor con la venta de los animales. Tras complejos trámites, la familia Pattel inicia una travesía que se verá truncada por la tragedia: una terrible tormenta hace naufragar el barco donde viajan, y Pi acaba compartiendo una suerte de bote salvavidas con un grupo de animales en ellos, un tigre de Bengala. Pi tendrá que echar mano del ingenio para sobrevivir mientras los animales se ocupan de ocupar puesto en la cadena de alimentación y, a la postre, tendrá que defender su liderazgo frente al único que, previsiblemente, queda vivo, el tigre. El joven intentará domar a la fiera, demostrar quien es el que manda pero también cómo es posible la comunicación, la comprensión y el respeto entre hombrecito y animalote. Sólo así, Pi podrá sobrevivir.

Son estos unos relatos plenos de sublimes descubrimientos, de momentos de una sabiduría tan infinita e íntima, que nos confirma la talla de Cisneros como escritora de agudo ingenio.
