Information on the Grande Prairie residential detoxification and stabilization program
AADAC opened a four-bed youth residential detoxification and stabilization program in the Grande Prairie area on March 17. The facility is located in Clairmont. This program is a collaboration between AADAC’s Grande Prairie Area Office and Mountain Plains Community Services of the North. AADAC has contracted Mountain Plains Community Services of the North to deliver this new service. The opening of this program builds on AADAC’s commitment to provide a continuum of services for Alberta’s youth and families. With this addition, AADAC now operates a total of 61 residential beds for youth throughout the province. The location of this program in the Grande Prairie area will meet the ongoing demand for treatment services in the northern communities, as well as for youth elsewhere in Alberta. This program is: • Voluntary. • 6-10 days (longer stays can be accommodated, if required). • For Alberta residents, up to 18 years of age. • Free of charge for Alberta residents. Youth must be referred to the program through an AADAC counsellor. AADAC’s Youth Detoxification and Stabilization Programs follow a social detoxification model, which supports and helps to stabilize youth while they withdraw from alcohol, other drugs or gambling. It also provides time for the youth to readjust and prepare to take the next step in ongoing treatment. This period of readjustment includes helping youth restore their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. Following completion of this program, youth and families can receive support and further treatment from the Grande Prairie Area Office and other services in their community.
