SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY’S SPONSORED STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM AT THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF ROME
Sacred Heart University undergraduate students are invited to apply to the Sacred Heart University Study Abroad Program at the American University of Rome. Through this program SHU and AUR partner to provide SHU students with opportunities to explore layers of history and culture, both ancient and modern; to experience a vibrant educational environment that balances both the liberal arts and professional disciplines; and to participate in a global community of students and faculty from around the world that encourages respectful dialogue in the classroom, in public forums, and in social activities. AUR overlooks the historical center and is located on top of the Janiculum, Rome’s highest hill. The campus includes a four-story villa which houses administrative offices, computer labs, faculty offices, and a student lounge. An adjacent five-story building houses the library, faculty offices, classrooms, a science lab as well as a photography and film editing suite. SHU juniors and exceptional sophomores from all undergraduate majors may apply. The minimum GPA requirement is 3.0. Offerings include courses in the following disciplines:
Anthropology Art/Art History Biology (basic courses only) Business Administration Cinema Classics Communications/Media Studies Computer Science (basic courses only) Drama Economics English French (basic courses only) History Italian Mathematics (basic courses only) Music Philosophy Political Science Psychology (basic courses only) Sociology Spanish (basic courses only) Studio Art
Housing is provided in furnished apartments in the lovely neighborhoods surrounding the University. A full Student-Affairs support system is provided to students by AUR. The program is available Fall, Spring, or Summer. The Study Abroad advisor in conjunction with the academic advisor will work with students on course selection and the applicability of specific courses to SHU programs of study. To participate in the program, SHU students pay the regular SHU tuition plus the $1,000 study abroad fee for the semester program or the $300 study abroad fee for the summer program. Students are responsible for funding travel to and from Rome. SHU financial aid is applicable to the semester program only. Housing is paid directly to AUR.
