									                            ECCE PROGRAM
                     LEARNING OUTCOMES PORTFOLIO

The Early Childhood Care and Education Program has adopted learning
outcomes as a foundation for portfolios across all four semesters of the full
time program (and all semesters of the part time course of studies). The
following outlines the expectations for each of the four portfolio
submissions with the designated courses:

Semester 1:             Personal belief statement about early childhood
Fall                     education and young children
                        Personal belief statement regarding best practices
ECCE 1180                in early childhood education settings
                        Strengths and challenges
                        Reflective question: what knowledge, capabilities
                         and skills do I now have as a result of what I have
                         been doing over this term?
                        Program outcomes examples should come from
                         learning in semester 1 ECCE courses (ECCE 1104,
                         1107, 1109, 1180)
Semester 2:             Personal Belief Statement regarding best practices
Winter                   in early childhood education settings (updated
                         from semester 1)
ECCE 1213               Strengths and challenges (updated from semester
                         1)
                        Personal belief statement about learning through
                         play
                        Reflective Questions: what knowledge, capabilities
                         and skills do I now have as a result of what I have
                         been doing over this term? What knowledge,
                         capabilities and skills will I need to have or develop
                         in order to become more effective as an early
                         childhood professional?
                        Program outcome evidence should come from
                         learning specific to the second semester (ECCE
                         1110, 1120, 1213, Health and Practicum)
                        Formal oral presentation in ECCE 1213 including an
                         introduction, review of the 2 reflective questions
                         using evidence from program outcomes (e.g.,
                         learning from second semester courses)
Semester 3:              Personal belief statement regarding best practices
Fall                      in early childhood care education settings
                          (updated from previous semester)
ECCE 1121               Strengths and challenges (updated from previous
                          semester)
                        Personal belief statement regarding supporting
                          families of young children
                        Reflective Questions: what knowledge, capabilities
                          and skills do I now have as a result of what I have
                          been doing over this term? What knowledge,
                          capabilities and skills will I need to have or develop
                          in order to become more effective as an early
                          childhood professional? How will I seek out/attain
                          feedback about my practices with children and
                          families?
                        Program outcome evidence should come from
                          learning specific to the third semester (ECCE 1121,
                          1211, 1215, Workplace communication and
                          Practicum)
Semester 4:         Conversion of the learning portfolio to a professional
Winter              portfolio organized by the Canadian Profile of
                    Employability Skills (using learning outcomes as
ECCE 1217           evidence)
                        Professional presentation
                        Peer and self review
                        Implementation of the portfolio in ‘mock
                          interviews’, developing an interview portfolio
                          (seven items selected from the professional
                          portfolio)
                        Employer critique and feedback




Portfolios will be graded as follows:

ECCE 1180     20%
ECCE 1213     10%
ECCE 1121     10%
