The program includes presentations and discussions on: * how to maintain and make public-private partnerships grow * how to create excitement * how to deliver benefits to partners * how to facilitate policy change * how to balance your priorities between communication and environmental strategies for increasing availability of fruits and vegetables Program 10.00 Welcome and introduction 10.30 Setting up an INTERPROFFESSIONAL SOCIETY Organizing all parts of the fruit and vegetable industry in one powerful INTERPROFFESSIONAL SOCIETY can be a key to more powerful programs. Laurent Damiens from Paris will explain The French experience and how Interfel was established. What role Interfel plays today and give us some tips on how to set up an interprofessional society. 11.00 The power of policy change In The United States a historic and high-level decision has been made to ensure collaboration between the departments of health and agriculture. This and pilot projects involving fruit and salad bars in schools are examples of how important policy changes can lead to increased fruit and vegetable intake. Lorelei DiSogra from Washington will explain the difference between advocacy and lobbyism and share her experience in working for policy changes to facilitate increased fruit and vegetable intake. 12.30 Lunch, walk and talk 14.00 5 A Day Innovations and Best Practices from the USA Mary Kay Solera and Kathy Cobb from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will give this presentation and help us understand how a national program can be organized with state coordinators. Also they will describe the development of the CDC 5 A Day Innovations: Telling Our Stories project and apply the story-telling technique to their programs and interventions 14.30 Collaboration between existing 5 A Day programs and WHO Ingrid Keller from WHO in Geneva will share her vision on how existing 5 A Day programs can benefit from working with the WHO Fruit and Vegetable Initiative and vice versa. 15.00 Painting the picture: How more international collaboration can make national programs more successful Is now the right timing for setting up a formal federation of 5 A Day programs? Morten Strunge Meyer from Copenhagen will initiate a discussion of this by presenting his views on what activities a general secretary could engage in. If time permits we will end the day by having a short discussion on how to balance our priorities between communication and environmental strategies for increasing availability of fruits and vegetables.
