							OAT Practice Test Web Site: Help for Students and
Teachers




Students
This web site allows you to access the practice tests for the Ohio Achievement Tests. If you are taking a test
assigned by your teacher, you will need to log in. If you just want to browse the practice tests available, you
may do so without logging in, or you can create a new account.
Teachers
This Web site allows you to access the practice tests for the Ohio Achievement Tests. If you are assigning a
test to your student(s), you will need to log in. If you just want to browse the practice tests available, you
may do so without logging in, or you can create a new account.




To log in with a User ID:

    •    Enter your User ID and password in the appropriate fields, and then click Log In.
    •    Important! If you have not signed up for your new account, you cannot log in. Click Sign Up For New
         Account to register your username and password.




                                 To create a new account:

    •    Having a User ID allows you to keep track of what tests you have taken, as well as access reports for those
         tests. Click Sign Up For New Account and follow the instructions on that page.
              o Note to Students: If your teacher has already assigned you a User ID, you must use that code.
                   Enter the ID into the text box, and then click Sign Up For New Account.




To access the tests without logging in:

    •   If you do not have a User ID or teacher-assigned code, you may still take the tests. Click on Take a Test
        without Logging In to do so.



Creating Your Account




This page allows you to set up your personal User ID and password so that you can access the tests
assigned to you.

Account Information


Choosing a User ID:

    •   If your teacher has already given you a User ID, it should already be entered into the field. If not, then
        choose one yourself.
    •   Your User ID must be unique in the system. Please keep in mind that common usernames such as jsmith
        may already be taken.




Choosing a Password:

    •   Your password must be a minimum of five characters, and include both letters and numbers.
    •   Enter the password twice; it must be typed exactly the same in both fields.

Personal Information

    •   Enter your first name, last name, and e-mail address in the fields provided.
    •   Make sure you correctly enter your e-mail address.

    •   To complete the account setup, click                               .
            o Note: If the username you selected above is already in use, you will be prompted to choose a
                  different one. Go back to the User ID field and type in a different username.
    •   You will receive an e-mail confirming your registration. Click on that link to complete the process.



Student Portfolio




My Homework
This section allows you to access the tests that your teacher has assigned to you. (Note: Teachers will not
assign tests to parents.)




To access an assigned test:


    •   Click on the     below Assigned Lessons.

    •   Highlight the test you want to take and click on    .
    •   You will be automatically redirected to the test.

To complete an assigned test not yet finished:

    •    Click on the drop-down menu arrow below Incomplete Tests.

    •    Select the test you need to finish, and then click on       .
    •    You will be automatically redirected to the test.




To see your completed test results:

    •    Click on the corresponding drop-down menu arrow below Results.

    •    Select the report you want to see, and then click on        .
    •    You will be automatically redirected to the report.



My Tests
This section contains the tests you practiced on your own. You may take these tests on your own time to
prepare for the OAT. If you need to take a test that your teacher has assigned to you, select that test from the
“My Homework” section.



To access a test not yet completed:

    •    Click the drop-down menu arrow below Unfinished Tests.

    •    Select the test you want to complete, and click         .
    •    You will be automatically redirected to the test.




To see your test reports:

    •    Click on the drop-down menu arrow below Results.

    •    Select the test you want to see your score for, and click       .
    •    You will be automatically redirected to the report.




To take a new test from the test bank:

    •    Click on Take a New Test.
    •    You will be automatically redirected to the test page, where you can select the practice test(s) you want to
         take.

Take a Practice Test




To select a practice test:

    •    Click on the subject. From the year(s) available, click on the one you want to take.
    •    You will be automatically redirected to that test.

This page allows you to see the instructions for your test. All tests have the same instructions. However, if
the teacher has assigned specific instructions for the test you’re taking, take the time to read them.




    •   To begin taking the test, click on                  .

    •   To print out the test to read, click on                 .

    •   To download the test and save it on your computer, click on                  .

Following are instructions for navigating throughout the tests.

To answer a multiple-choice (MC) question:

    •    Read the test question carefully and follow any specific directions.
    •    To choose your answer, click on the corresponding bubble.

    •    To go to the next question, click on                            .


To answer a question that requires a constructed response:

    •    Read the test question carefully.
    •    Follow any directions given for showing work in the corresponding Answer Document (in this site, it is the
         text box).
    •    Write your answer in the text box provided at the end of the question.

    •    To go to the next question, click on                            .


To skip a question:


    •    To skip a question and return to it later, click on                    .
    •    An alert symbol will appear to the left of the question    (on the left-hand-side of the screen).


To return to a skipped question:

    •    If you have skipped a question, you can return to it in one of two ways:
              o On the left-hand side of the screen is a numbered list of test questions.
                            Skipped questions will have a yellow “alert” symbol next to them.
                            Click on the number to return to that test item.

                               You will be redirected to that question.




              o       At the bottom of the screen is a drop-down list.

                               Click on the     .
                               Select the question you wish to return to.
                               You will be redirected to that question.




To review a question:

    •    You may review your answers to the questions at any time.
    •    To do so, click on the question number from the list on the left-hand side of the screen.
    •    The shaded arrow indicates which question you are looking at now.


To finish the test:

    •    After the last question, you may submit the test to your teacher for final grading.

    •    To submit the test, click on                    .
    •    You will be redirected to the screen that shows your answers.
             o Multiple Choice questions are scored automatically.
             o Constructed Response questions will be scored and entered by your teacher later.
                            Note: CR questions for the Writing tests will show an automated score plus your teacher’s
                            score.



End of Test Report




This report page shows the breakdown of your test scores.

Multiple Choice (MC) Questions:

    •    All the MC questions are shown, including results on whether you answered them correctly, what the correct
         answer is, and the answer you selected.


Constructed Response (CR) Questions:

    •    CR questions are shown, along with the number of correct CR answers.
    •    If you have taken a Math, Reading, Science, or Social Studies test, your teacher will grade the CRs.
    •    If you have taken a Writing test, you will see two scores for one question.
              o The first is an automated score, which is based on your use of keywords and appropriate grammar,
                  as well as your answer’s overall relevance to the question content.
              o The second score will be the score recorded by your teacher.


Skipped Questions:

    •    If you skipped any questions without answering them, this will be indicated.


Total Points:

    •    Your total score is indicated here. Divide your score by the Total Points to get your percentage grade.




Score breakdown:

    •    You will see a breakdown of your answers by test question. CR questions will be marked with a       . MC
         questions will show either  or    to show whether they were answered correctly or not. MC questions will
         also show the correct answer and your answer.

To set up your account, fill in all the fields on this page.

Account Information




    •    User ID:
             o  Must be unique and one you will remember. If the ID is already in use, you will be prompted at the
                end of registration to select a different one.
    •    Password:
             o Your password must be a minimum of five characters and include at least one number.
             o Type the password again in the confirmation field. It must be identical to the first one.

Personal Information

    •   Enter your first name, last name, and e-mail address.
            o Your account registration confirmation will be sent to the e-mail address provided.
                           Make sure it is typed in correctly.




District/School Information

    •   Enter the information for your school and district.
            o District Name: enter the full name of your district.
            o District IRN: enter the full number (six digits).
            o School Name: enter the full name of your school.
            o School IRN: enter IRN- plus the full number (six digits).
            o Phone number: enter the telephone number of your school or your direct line in your office or
                 classroom.


Submitting Account Information



    •   When you have completed all the fields, click                         .
    •   You will receive an e-mail asking you to click on a link to register.
            o You must click on the link to complete the account setup process.

    •    To complete the registration process and begin assigning practice tests, click             .



Build or Edit a Practice Test




This page allows you to create, edit, assign, and score tests for your students (or take a test yourself).



To create a new test:

    •    Click Create Prescriptive Practice Test.
    •    You will be automatically redirected to the test bank.


Note: If you have not yet created a test, then you will not see the following options.




To access options for tests already created:

    •    Click the corresponding button next to the appropriate name of the practice test you want to access.

    •    To access student scores or assign Constructed Response scores, click                            .

    •    To assign the test to other students, click                    .

This page is your starting point for seeing practice tests your students can take.




To select a test:


    •    Click the subject you wish to assign; for example            .

    •    You will be automatically redirected to the test options page.

This page allows you to name your test, set a deadline, and add additional instructions for students.



To create a test name and set a deadline:

    •    Enter your unique test name (e.g., Ms. Doe's math class, Social Studies Test A, and so forth) into the field




         provided.
    •    Click on the calendar icon to the right of the Activity Due Date   .
              o The current month will pop up. Click on the desired due date. The date will automatically appear in
                   the Due Date field.
                           To advance through the calendar to a future month, click on the arrow to the right of the
                           month name.
                           To go to an earlier month, click on the arrow to the left.


Turning off auto-display of correct answers:

    •    You may turn off the automatic display of correct responses. If you do so, your students will not know if their
         answer was right or wrong immediately after they have responded to a test question. They will not see that
         information until they have completed the test.
              o    To turn off auto-display, click the check box   .




Optional: Providing extra test instructions:

    •    If you have extra instructions to provide your students, type them in the text box.



When you are done with the test options, click on                   .


Assigning Students to a Test




This page allows you to assign students to a test you have selected. You may add students either manually
or by selecting names from a previously created list of students who already have User IDs.

To add a new student (who does not have a User ID):

    •    Type the student's first name, last name, and create a User ID for that student.
             o Note: The User ID must be unique in the system.




    •    Click                     .


To add an existing student (who already has a User ID):


    •    Type the user ID into the field provided.
    •    Click Add Existing User.
              o Note: If this is the first time you have assigned a test, the following part will not be visible:

To add a student (who is already saved in your system):

    •   Under Assign to Test; click the checkbox(es) to the left of the student(s).
    •   Click                    .




To complete the student assignment process, click               .


Accessing Student Information




After you have assigned students to a test, you will see this version of the options page. In addition to your
other options, you may print a list of all your students assigned to the test, or update their personal
information, or remove the name of a student you have assigned.



    •   To print out the list of students assigned to the test, click                   .




    •   To update a student's personal information, click the           button next to their username.
