Events National Aboriginal Day – June 21
- participated at Rotary Park, T-Shirts were a big draw; next yr we should charge
a nominal fee; also had 75 signatures to Indian act petition; gave out water with
logos on each bottle: PSAC North, UNION YES, Aboriginal Day
- needed more people to cover the table throughout the day, it was very cold
- better to setup later in the afternnoon (2-5:oo pm) for our target market, working
people.National Aboriginal, Inuit and Metis Network banner is in annex office
Labour Day – Feed the People – Musical Entertainment
Decided: Diane will explore providing a shelter & some musical entertainment
with a donated honourarium – to be followed up with an e-mail motion for a
Noted: Dawson does BBQ each yr. and is fairly self sufficient
Day of Mourning – Planting a Tree in Shipyards Park
Proposal, YFL response
- Living symbol; May Day Tree, $500, has some difficulties.
- Mountain Ash is an alternate, invited partnerships with YFL, OHS. The proposal
went to the June 9 meeting of the YFL however it was tabled to their next

Survey request - from Regional Women’s Committee
Yukon Area Council President - distributed
Submitted recommendations for the YWCHSB working on prevention initiative based
on feedback from executive. Have a new PSAC/YAC banner which is in the annex
office. Also some bottles of water for next event.
Treasurer - have not received the operating grants yet.
Regional Women’s Committee – survey and letter to Minister Taylor.
Political Action Committee
- appropriateness of YAC action or Regional Women’s Committee for Copperbelt
- letter was sent to (June 2nd) Premier & Justice Minister requesting emmidiate
asking YAC to support, there may be back lash, proceed with caution
- discussed campaign strategy
Decided: Melissa will liase with RWC to coordinate our support
Electoral campaign if still an issue at that time.
Pride Committee;request for funding for anti homophobia day
Moved: Dianne; Seconded: Sylvie : $200 to pride committee for costs

Petiton for Indian Act bill C-31
Provided by National, petion is only available for signature by
Decided: 75 signatures captured June 21st, will be forwarded to Ottawa
Social Justice fund anti poverty

CLC Labour College donation request
CLC labour college is requesting finanical support to operate the college.
There was a resolution sent to the CLC convention to provide dues contribution. No
sure on the outcome.
M/S:Mike/Darryl: YAC provide a 1 time donation of $500 to the CLC m/s/Carried

Decided: Mike to see what info can be provided Larry Bagnell who will deliver a
presentation to the minister if there is sufficient info and impact; aiming for Sept.
Try to include bilingualism as a requirement for all federal services.
- Discussion: rearding getting minutes distributed, such as e-mail; Regional office
- If members leave early or miss a meeting it is their responsibilty to contact
President or regional office to find out what they missed
